Hello Biertonco,

It should have 6.0.1.5730 as the version number in Device Manager for the latest 2.08 driver.

R 2.09 is available but only the zipped version not the Exe. Any difference? Changelog?

Thanks, That seems to have done the trick. I will reboot once more to make sure it's working properly.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Thanks for the head up about R2.09, Shawn. The first run of the installation program uninstalled the current driver, as expected. I then restarted when prompted. Windows then proceeded to reinstall the basic driver that came with Vista (again, this was expected). However, on running the R2.09 installer again, it kept saying that the driver was already installed, except that I knew that it hadn't. To overcome this, I installed R2.09 directly via the 'Device Manager'. This needed to be carried out with administrative credentials. See the following Tutorial: Device Manager - Install Driver

I have Vista Ultimate 64bit, with Realtek onboard sound on my mother board. However, my Quadraphonic speakers don't seem to be working as I can only get sound to come out of my front two speakers when in WMP etc. sometimes when I go into control panel, I can get sound coming out of all 4 speakers, but sometimes it doesn't happen. After reading this thread I have done the following:

1) Downloaded and installed the latest driver 2.08 (installed twice, forst time to remove old driver, next time to install new driver). My driver cersion is currently 6.0.1.5730.
2) Since installing the new driver, I have lost the Realtek icon in my control panel.

To be honest, I've used up all my, er, knowledge, does anyone have any ideas I can try?

Many thanks,

Maj
Anyone have any ideas on this problem, any help would be much appreciated!

How about completely uninstalling the audio driver, using a registry cleaner if you have one and then try installing again. In other words, you're trying to replicate a "clean" install.
