Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Heres the way I am going to solve my problem. I got two choices, figure out what the heck OpenAL support is and if it is fixable through drivers. If so then I am going to get the new Tritton AXPC headphones for about $73. They connect through USB 1.1 or 2.0 and I have 2.0 so it will work even better in theory. The only problem with them is right now they have problems with OpenAL games which are basically all the newer vista games. If you know anything about that and/or if it can be fixed through drivers then I want to go with that choice. If it can't be fixed then I will wait because my other choice is buying the Fatality gaming headset from creative and getting the X-FI xtreme fatality pro or w/e it is with it. That will cost around $200, but it does support OpenAL because creative is partnered with OpenAL and they are the only ones right now to bring it into vista...Any suggestion or other ideas are welcome.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

I have that... and a little tray message appears.. but i do NOT get the screen to select what i just plugged in. It has happened with the 4 installations of vista i've had with this machine. This is what mine looks like... the "double" is because this site is the background of that image as i did a printscreen.

Broken image links removed by: Brink

after this happens.. the tray message disappears and no other dialog box or selection box appears... just like that.

Well, I am no expert on OpenAL either. It may be more expensive with Creative, but at least you know it will support OpenAL. Just save you receipt and the packaging just in case it doesn't help and you need to return it.

Highlander,

I have my tray icon turned off, but when I enabled it I get what you get and still get the popup window I normally get and for some reason you are not. At least we know that it has detected that something was plugged in.

This has escaped me why you are not getting that popup choice box. Have you already tried pluggin the headphone directly into the back of your computer's jack and not the side of the speaker for a test?

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Yea, I think im going to go with the Tritton AXPC but I might wait a little longer to see if they fix the openal support. Or at least do some research, bec if it is fixable then you know if they want to sell their product for games they are going to have to fix it for the purpose of vista. Right now there are x64 beta drivers out but I don't know just yet. Thanks for the input though. BTW here are is the headset I am looking at. Besides the OpenAL it's gotten great reviews from everywhere.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

Ok so I did some research. Rumor has it that OpenAL can be fixed/supported through drivers. Right now Tritton offers a beta driver for x64/x32 vista so obviously those drivers can be fine tuned and fixed to support OpenAL entirely. All OpenAL is is an API similar to OpenGL except its for Audio rather then graphics. So all Tritton needs to do is take their hardware and incorporate the OpenAL API and get it to work with their software.

On xp.. i get the tray icon and i get the pop up and i choose headphones and what not. I will disable the tray icon to see if the pop up appears.

Re: New Realtek HD audio driver update

i removed the tray icon.. and nothing.... nada... What i would like to know is if there is any kind of registry key where i can manually change what i have connected. There HAS to be a config file SOMEWHERE...

again this has happened on ALL the vista installations i have made to this machine.

Sorry Highlander,

I thought you were plugging your headphone in the jack input on your speakers instead of the back of your computer.

I agree there has to be something somewhere for it. I looked everywhere and I can not find anything else either. I do not know if may have anything to do with you having a dual boot with Vista and XP or not.

I wish I had more for you, but I'm stumped now to.
