Re: New Realtek HD Audio Driver Released

Andypaws,

Well, that's some good news. In that same area, make sure that Swap Center / Subwoofer Output is unchecked. You may have to try having Enable Bass Management checked and unchecked to see what difference it may make.

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Driver Released

Regretfully I have no Swap Centre / Subwoofer Output or Enable Bass Management check boxes. Looks like I am out of luck!!

Sound is important to me. If it worth upgrading to a decent Vista sound card or am I likely you just compound the problem?

Thanks again.

Andypaws,

Are you looking in the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel (Classic View) ? See screenshot below. I boxed it it red.

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Driver Released

WOW! I have nothing like this!! In Control Panel (Classic View), the only audio related icon I have is titled "Sound" (picture of a speaker). The associated dialogue boxes are very limited in the choices they offer.

Sounds like I have some software missing - is that correct?

Thanks for your help.

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Driver Released

Andypaws,

Haha, I would say that you did.

You may have only installed the Realtek HD Audio drivers once. You need to install them twice. Once to remove the old driver, and second to actually install the newer driver. You will have to restart Vista after each install of the driver. Make sure that you install the driver from a Administrator account.

After this, you should see the Realtek HD Audio Manager icon in the Control Panel (Classic View).

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Driver Released

Right! Have reinstalled as directed and now have the Realtek HD Audio Manager in Control Panel. Results of playing with the Enable Bass and Speaker Fill options as follows:

Enable Bass Unchecked, Speaker Fill Unchecked = All speakers except Sub Woofer.

Enable Bass Checked, Speaker Fill Checked = All speakers including Sub Woofer.

So, not sure if it is true 5.1 or some compromise but for the first time under Vista, I have x6 working speakers!!

Thanks very much for your help.

Your welcome Andypaws.

Glad to hear that you have them working. Just play around with the speaker settings to see what sounds best to you.

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Driver Released

I am having a problem using the speaker fill option. I have a gigabyte ga-g33m-s2h motherboard and it I have updated to the newest realtek drivers. Unfortunately when I go to the tray to change my settings (the little red speaker icon) instead of seeing a realtek badge in the lower left corner of the HD Audio manager I see a gigabyte badge. And I do not see a an option to use speaker fill.

All I see is swap/center sub/output and under that bass management.
Can someone please help me? Any help is appreciated.

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Driver Released

Hi Infenit101,

Welcome to the forum.

You probably see the Gigabyte logo on the Audio Manager if you downloaded the Realtek audio driver from Gigabyte's website instead of Realtek's. You might try the driver from Realtek to see if it will work better.

Re: New Realtek HD Audio Driver Released

I downloaded the driver from the Realtek website. I'm thinking about just doing another 'sigh' clean install. IF you have any other ideas let me know.
