| Vista Home Premium x86 | Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite?? Just wanted to add my conclusion in doing some research as well. If you go here, Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com You can see how well CNET.com rated AVG as their number one most popular download on their website. I'm most definitely going to uninstall my Norton and use the AVG for my AntiVirus. |

| Vista Home Premium x86 | Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite?? Quick question.. I'm trying to turn on AVG as a Malware protection, it'll ask me for permission, I allow it and it never changes to "on". What am I doing wrong? |

| Vista Home Premium 32 bit. SP1 & SP2 | Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite?? I wanted to see what others were using to protect there systems and I must say it goes from A to Z.Like most I have tried Norton, McAfee and AVG. Both the 7.5 and 8.0 Internet Security. I had some problems with the 8.0 version and went back to the 7.5 which will be up at the end of this year. Now to the question, I would like to use ESET Smart Security which I understand has anti virus, anti spyware, firewall etc. I will still use Window Defender, Microsoft Windows onecare, and Malicious software remover as needed. This is a home computer and used for e-mail, surfing the web, a few games etc. I would go with the AVG Internet Security but the reviews are not as good as I would like. Thank You for your replies. |

| Vista Home Premium 32 bit. SP1 & SP2 | Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite?? Well I just updated to the 8.0 version of Internet Security. I installed over the 7.5 version and all went well. I refused the toolbar as I use McAfee site advisor. Ran my first scan after checking for updates and everything went smooth except my cpu meter went nuts hitting a high of 93 but just for a sec. I went to the virus vault and found it empty. The 7.5 version would have at least 15 or so Spyware but I think the new version deletes them. What a shame I enjoyed that part, oh well I will test it out and report back , the bad, the good and the ugly. Comments welcome. |

| Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite?? Nope None at all.... And I haven't run an antivirus for about 6 years now. I am very careful about what I click on...it's really as simple as that. Any new Viruses out there then you are just as vulnerable as I am and amongst the dozens of other things that can happen to data I don;t feel the costs of Antivrus and system slowdowns justifies it. If I happen to get one...a trip down the PC shop and I can fix it up for cheap. But, I do have an antivirus I have ESET Smart Security v3.0.621.0 and I never had any problems with it so I strongly recommend ESET ![]() , also a good ones are AVAST, AVG and for extra Protection I suggest SPYBOT they are all free |

| Vista Home Premium 32 bit. SP1 & SP2 | Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite?? Your screen shot shows that you have AVG Internet Security. Is this correct? What version, from what you have said I take it to be the 8.0.164. Looking at the screenshot your problem may rest with the installation. Follow the advice on checking out options. Also click on the icon and look at the Security Components and Status Overview. Make sure all programs have a green check mark. Check out the Anti-virus and Update Manager to make sure you have the latest updates. Keep us posted with the results so we all can learn. |

| Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Basic 32bit. | Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite?? for people saying you can delete it manually well yes you can but some intergrate into files so it can get around the deletion hence the reason when I got my trojan I couldn't manually delete it so I went on Brinks security list and downloaded some stuff well guess what I hardly ever download very rare I don't go on many sites just a handful and I have 2 trojans and adaware cookies most just dorment but they're still on the system anybody can get a systematic infection just some more than others my mum on the first day of getting her laptop got a pop up asking her to buy stuff she hadn't downloaded a thing INFACT she had only just got the internet hooked up so to say it depends on what you visit and download is only partially the answer my mum hadn't done a thing and then norton picked it up and deleted the threat so good luck with having no protection not something I would ever recommend like but it's upto you |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite?? You mum probably got a Windows Messenger popup that were prevalent before SP2 did away with having the messenger service disabled. However, you also have to realize that there are 'legitimate' pop ups as well - if she already had some sort of Internet protection suite installed (and these days it is almost impossible to buy a machine without one) as soon as it discovers an internet connection, one of the first things it will do is register itself with the home server, and then inform you that you have a trial subscription that will end in X # of days, and you should consider buying a subscription upgrade *now* to prevent being left without protection. I know for a fact that McAfee does this in some versions, and have been told that Norton does as well. |
