Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

I prefer:

F-Secure Security Client 2009 + Spybot S & D....the best defense out of all the others I've tested.

NOD32 is apparently junk...
Kas is equivalent to NOD32
Trend Micro Security Suite doesn't really test fully like F-Secure does.
Norton Internet Security, Complete, it's a resource hog, and defends are ok...

My company uses Sophos AV, which is supposedly to be good.

However, Bit-Defender Security wins the shootout, but my fave is F-Secure....I researched and done many different tested....I liked the 2 complete software protection as I do a lot of technical software, banking online, college training online, etc......

Just remember when you use the online free scan, they will always add the numbers of AV's/Mal3ware/Trojans, etc...just to scare you and make you buy there software...

Norton Internet Security 2009 is NOT a resource hog. It's the slickest security suite out there. It has insanely good scanning capability, and very few false positives. Granted, NOD32 is better when it comes to false positives, but it comes with the price of a WAY lower real threat detection rate. Symantec has really hit the jackpot with this version. I barely notice it's running!

The F-secure suite isn't even near the performance of the most recent norton suite... Try it and you'll be as amazed as I am.

I've replaced NOD32 on all computers I manage. I don't regret it, it's definetely a HUGE improvement.

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

Thanks for your input....

That just goes to my better judgments and opinion...everyone has there opions...I especially like F-Secure...

I will give the Norton Total Security a shot, with the 2009 version, see what it does...

We have quite a few IT professionals prefer Sophos and F-secure...F-Secure 2009 is awesome, I barely even noticed the program running, just like you do with Norton.

Everything is a little new, especially Norton, to even receive that praise for there great program.

Cheers

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

Yeah, it's a market full of change.

2006 - Trend micro (The 2008 security suite from trend never worked well for me, so nod32 took over for a while)
2007 - Nod32 (Just an intermediate since I didnt like any of the other choices)
2008 - Norton (This refers to the 2009 suite, but 2009 has not started yet.. )

Here's what I read that convinced me to actually give the norton suite a shot, otherwise I'd still have claimed it to be bloat just like you did...

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

Sorry...the last 3 postings are so far off its sickening.

NOD32 has had the top spot at the av comparatives and VB 100 for at least the last 5 years. And hardly a day goes by that I dont have to run Norton out of some poor chumps system in order to get it working again. And Nortons 2009 offering is absolutly as bad as any they have ever slopped out.

If it works for you woo hoo!

But recomending it is irresponsible.

NOD32 flaunts a 95~98% detection rate and zero false positives.

Norton cant make 40%. Hasent for a loooong time.

If you want good AV, Norton is the wrong place to look.

Free AV. Avast!

Get the best.

NOD32!

Hope that cleared that up for the nOObs.

Virus Bulletin : News - AV-Test release latest results

Get a REAL clue before claiming such nonsense.

(You'll note that norton actually has WAYYYYYYY better than 40% even on internet security 2008.... And both of them detect more malware than nod32...)

Who you calling nOObs? Dude, ....

Haha, give it up....you haven't even worked in the real world of IT of 1000+ computers...do your homework...

In facts, I was just related to my opinion, not that I expect you to believe it, FREEDOM of speech, so I test, and look around a lot, work with lots of computers...Again, at work they use Sophos, it works great..

For home office, with a few hundreds remote connections, banking, etc....F-Secure, that's me...

If you like the FREE AV Crap--- Avast, and NOD32 couldn't even find my dad's virus, F-Secure took care of it....real facts overrules reality...

I'm done...with this topic, move along, move along...

Just don't move too fast and forget to try NIS2009.
Post your impression here after, or just pm it if you fear going public . I'm curious, because *everyone* scream bloat when I say norton, and it's always nice to see their jaw drop when I'm right. hehe.

I don't use any virus program either. Never have. Though, there are SO MANY different scenarious depending on the person that can merit whether or not a person should have one, me personally, I do not need one. I read the news, check email, go on Facebook or MySpace and that's it. I don't play games, I don't download and install programs or hack programs by looking for crackz or serialz on any of those websites. I don't look at porn. (I'll be honest and say a lot of most people's encounters with spyware and adware are from porn sites). I do not use instant message programs. I'm a very very simple computer user. I know all about hacking and modifying and altering programs galore. So knowing so much I guess justifies not needing a virus program.

Before I upgraded to Vista, having just XP. I had all the latest updates by default and never used any other program whatsoever. Now, having Vista, it comes with Windows Defender, but I've never needed to worry. I've run it once and it found nothing. So it's kind of useless actually, to me.

If you want my official opinion to your original post however, I will suggest this:

Windows Live OneCare. I got it for my parents because my Dad likes to visit "peculiar" sites once in a while, and they've had problems in the past that I had to fix and I was curious how those problems occurred, but I don't ask questions. I just fix. So I had given them Nortan Anti-Virus but too many times it just seemed like it caused a lot of problems and for the cost it wasn't worth it.

I read about some others, compared them all, and narrowed it down to OneCare. It's pretty efficient. The nice thing is, it integrates itself with your Live ID (hotmail.com email account if you have one) so you can register your PC in what they call their OneCare Circle. As well, you can add 2 or 3 other PC's to it, under one subscription. So for a family, that's handy.

Lastly, it runs with little resources. It doesn't prompt you to update. It also comes with a Tune-Up feature, that Scans your system for viruses, defragments your system, checks for windows updates and removes unecessary files to keep your system clean, all the while running in the background.

So, I have used it for a while to test it out, and it works flawlessly. You can tell it to even prompt you every time any program chooses to access the interenet (in the Firewall settings) and once you select allow, it won't prompt again, but it's up to the user. It also tries to do back ups for you. The backup feature is pretty nice. It will backup system files and important documents (photos, emails, etc) for you. You can choose which files to otherwise, but minimally it's good to have a system back up, and it fits it all onto one cd (without the photos, music and such).

So that's my input.
