quit spreading false rumors. Eusing does not work on x64 correctly.

It was never made clear if it would work on an x64 system. It'll work on a x86 system fine.

Ok guys, settle down, this is not a flamer site. We pride ourselves on being helpful, co-operative, and most of all, friends. Peace.

And besides we are talking about Security Programs. Not overall software. Go to another section to discuss that or PM eachother and figure it out.

Remember, one thing is certain:

DO NOT USE WINDOWS LIVE ONECARE, IT DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THE MOST COMMON VIRUS, IT'S JUST PLAIN CRAP.

Thanks for ur input, but I was hoping to get some idea's or input on people that have, use, or know of whats the best thing for a Anti-virus or for a Internet Security Suite. Because thats what I'm looking for at the moment.. Thanks again..

Anyone else have some thoughts feel frreeee to Share please!
Hi nowt wrong with avg mate I have used it for over 3 years without any problems unlike norton as it is less invasive and takes up less hard drive space and the new version avg 8 pro is brilliant with very good features

Have you try Norton 2009 version. It is light and noninvasive. If you try it, you may change your mind; I did. Well, it is not free though.

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

If its Vista you don't need an anti-virus in the system - Windows Defender is enough - for XP i would recomend Notron Internet Security 2009 - One of the Best !!!

Yeah, Vista doesn't need an anti-virus, trojan or malware unless of course you are actually connected to the INTERNET!

Some basic Windows app can do 1/18 (if that) the job of a proper virus scanning app.

Windows Defender is designed to find PUPs not viruses, spyware, trojans and adware.

An anti-virus app is ESSENTIAL in todays internet climate. The RIAA and MPAA have moved on to making viruses that deny access to websites that they deem 'unacceptable'.

So don't go preaching 'the world is a happy place where no one is going to hurt you' because the world is not a happy place and people are out to hurt you.

avast! is good, small footprint so it starts quick (especially compared to AVG).

I just bought my X64 Vista and Zone Alarm does not make a 64 bit version. Wanting a combo AV and Firewall, I tried a number of programs and didn't have too much luck. Trend Micro, for example, told me the reason I was having so many troubles with their product was that I had the beta version of SP1 installed and that I would either have to uninstall SP1 or their program. I opted for their program. At the moment I'm using AVG for everything but firewall and I'm using Windows for that. Satisfactory but I do like the way ZA works on my other machines and if you have 32 bit Vista, you might try them.
New here but not to computers,, Zone alarm currently has a beta version available for 64 bit vista, runs without crashes on a new dell no problem/ The only thing is you have to keep reloading it every 30 days as they are not making the test versions upgradeable. Personally I don,t have aproblem with this,I know I am helping them test a beta version and I really don,t want residual from thelast version sticking around. Worth a try if you like Zone alarm and are used to it from your XP days.

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

I know that we each have our perference to what is the best AV. I am still using the paid version from AVG and it works ok for me. I have it set to run when I am not using the computer so that is not a problem. It does everything you need or except from a AV and more. I do believe the new version is getting better day by day. I will just add that if you want a solid AV with all the goodies AVG might be right for you.

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

I do not like Norton at all. I had it installed with both my computers. Once I opened it, every if I didn't intend too, I had the hardest time trying to get it off. I COULD NOT GET IT OFF MY COMPUTER NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED. I contacted the Norton company many times and I could not get ahold of them by email or phone. I kept getting a recording. I will never use a software company that will not support me or return my calls.

Therefore, I now use Windows Live OneCare. I won't say it's without its' problems, but the security is great. I can allow what I want to and the backups are very easy. It has its own firewall and gives me a report anytime I want it. I can have it run on a schedule or run it when I want to. Therefore, I can control it or let it control itself. I like having that option. If I don't feel comfortable doing something I'm not sure I'm doing right, I let it do it for me. I really like it better than any other I've tried. So far, I have had no virsuses or malware on my computer at all. I really like it for protection. It is easy to use and also very reliable.

(although I have a small problem with it, my problem does NOT interfere with it protecting my computer.) I would recommend it to anyone; especially if they have any form of Windows.
