Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

After trying numerous A/Vs for x64 I settled on NOD32 - it's solid, doesn't use many resources, & doesn't pester me about purchase. Right now I'm running NOD & Defender for anti-spyware. Is this overkill, or can I drop Defender?

The best antivirus is knowledge on how to stop your computer being infected in the first place. Dont open any emails you do not recognise. Dont download things you dont trust blah blah. I know that even experianced users do get virus though. I use Avast for 64bit vista. I also run spybot search and destroy once a week.

What I do in conunction with Live OneCare 2.0 doing a quick virus/spyware scan, is that I have OneCare set to do a deep scan once a week, and I also run Spyware Blaster 4.0 which immunizes my system and IE7 to help prevent spyware.

Hi

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but the embedded firewall in XP/Vista is the ONLY firewall to score a 0 (Zero) points out of a possible 9625 in the Matousec Firewall tests.
These tests run by Matousec is the most comprehensive firewall for Windows tests to date, and the Windows firewall failed to stop even the most basic exploits, so I think it's best if you look around for another.
Comodo is free and ranked second highest and Online Armor (free) is another top rank. I use Comodo myself along with Eset NOD32. I beta tested the Eset Security Suite with firewall and while I liked it, it doesn't offer very much for users who use the advanced rules to configure their own settings. The Eset engineers told me that more configuration was going to be added in the next iteration of the product (sometime next year), as they just needed to get the suite out and didn't have time for that in the first Consumer Release.

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

on top of using firwalls and AVs using our nogans all these things help and everyone needs to stop insulting each other over differences in opinion.

they all work to some degree and in the ideal world we wouldn't need them or the choice but they are their you can however take advise from all the posts and end up at a really good decision on what to get

avg is good but not on it's own
norton can be a little hungry but then it depends on your system only drama i had was a slightly slower boot time once it was up it was fine though.
mcafee i had trouble with so i wouldn't recomend it
kasperky is a good one if you can get your internet to run lol
now going out to get nod 32 to give that a bash reviews are good so hears hoping it's not just hype

but i do have to agree with everyone who said get a good firewall damn if you don't need one of those to sift out most of the stuff before you need AV i got a nice one that is multi layer firewall awesome stuff just takes forever to get games running online

i hope this helps and that i don't get abused for being honest! and unbiased either lol

ok i see what your saying but the point of getting aftermarket AV's and firewalls is to get extra protection from some of those more annoying little buggers that mess your system up thats all and if you really trust the windows firewall that much then at least get yourself antispyware and antimale ware free ones and a thrid party firewallalso free couldn't hurt and may protect your system and will give you an idea of what is getting through too.

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

Symantec and MacAfee are resource hogs and cause internet connectivity issues. AVG has been missing trojan horses in the last few weeks. I know of 5 computers infected using it. Trendmicro and Avast work well. Avast does not use a lot of resources. I like the daily upgrades to it. Trendmicro has excellent packages. I am looking at it for my corporate network.
