Hi Damir,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

The free Avast Home Edition antivirus program is a great one to use that installs a true 64 bit or 32 bit version automatically for your version of Vista from it's installation file. You do need to register, but it's still free.

Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

Shawn
Bullsheit. Avast installs *32 filesets that are "compatible" with x64.

Thanks for welcoming

I used to install Kaspersky, but, when i install it installs in x86 directory of program files.
Kaspersky is garbage. I have a PIX 501 firewall installed (really TIGHT, I allow outbound traffic on very few known ports), and KAV, that focker, would PORT-SCAN my firewall from the INSIDE. Slowed my machine and the network to a crawl. Once I installed Lavasoft PSF 3, I noticed that KAV had 200-300 network connections open CONSTANTLY.

GARBAGE. Instant uninstall.

Hi Damir

Just for the record, ESET's Nod32 Antivirus and Smart Security products are true 64-bit programs and will automatically be installed in ones Program Files folder.

I'm glad you're using a program like Kaspersky for your Antivirus. There's no doubt it's right up there with the best of them!

Warmest regards

Neil
I really wish you guys knew how bad Kaspersky is. I bought it on a recommendation, "EDITOR'S PICK" of a magazine. Until I noticed how it chewed up my network and started port-scanning my hardware firewall to get out.

Toss it.

I haven't tried NOD32 yet. I will, to see if it really is x64. I'll look through my Task Manager..

Bullsheit. NOD32 is a *32 bit program.

Don't be fooled. I just installed it, and immediately dumped it.

Cheers.

SO FAR:

KAV claims x64, but is *32 = garbage.
Sophos claims x64, but is *32 = garbage.
NOD32 claims x64, but is *32 = garbage.
AVAST claims x64, but is *32 = garbage.
AVG claims x64, but is *32 = garbage.
Zone Alarm x64 (no longer available)

eTrust (CA) ??? Anyone know?
MS Live OneCare ??? Anyone know?
McAfee ??? Anyone know?
Norton ??? Anyone know?

When I find out, I'll post an update..

Jeez. It's worse than pulling teeth.

Re: Vista Ultimate x64 Antivirus

At this point in time, it appears that there aren't many true x64 antivirus apps. I'd personally recommend ESET Smart Security (you have to pay, but it's worth it). I checked task manager....'egui.exe' is x64, but 'ekrn.exe' has the *32 next to it....

Are there any real, 'true' x64 antivirus / security suites out there? Any that surpass current programs? What's the real benefit of having a true x64 antivirus?

Re: Vista Ultimate x64 Antivirus

Hi r2rx,

I use the free Avast and find it to be a great antivirus program to use. You might give it a try and see how you like it.

avast! antivirus Home Edition, anti-spyware & anti-rootkit for Windows
