Vista Ultimate x64 Antivirus

This is the first time that i am running Vista.
I am currently running Kaspersky AV.
Is this good enough? If not, what would you recommend?
Is there a version of Kaspersky 64?

Thanks,
damir

Re: Vista Ultimate x64 Antivirus

Hi Damir,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

The free Avast Home Edition antivirus program is a great one to use that installs a true 64 bit or 32 bit version automatically for your version of Vista from it's installation file. You do need to register, but it's still free.

Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

Hi Damir

Yes, according to their website Kaspersky Antivirus 7.0.1.321 and higher supports Vista x64 Service Pack 1.

Anti-virus Software with Anti-spyware for Home Computer Security

In addition to Shawn's suggestion, I'd recommend you consider ESET's Nod32 Antivirus or their Smart Security product.

Re: Vista Ultimate x64 Antivirus

Damir,

I do not know where NOD32 installs at, but Avast does install in the 64 bit Program Files folder and not the x86 Program Files one.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Vista Ultimate x64 Antivirus

Hi,

thank you for fast reply.

Well, u are right.

Does it really matter in which folder it is installed?

If i install Kaspersky (which i like) in folder x86, does it really matter?

What is the difference?

If someone can pls explain it to me a little better.

This is the first time i am running x64 OS, and i am really not familiar with this yet.

Thank you very much!

Re: Vista Ultimate x64 Antivirus

Damir,

If you like Kasperky, I would stick with it then. The only real difference is that if the antivirus program is a true 64 bit program itself and not just supports the 64 bit Vista, then it can work better with the 64 bit Vista and have the potential to protect better.

Either one will protect you though.

Re: Vista Ultimate x64 Antivirus

@damir no it Doesnt matter which folder its installed in.
When kaspersky releases a true 64-bit AV it will install in the X64 folder.

If you have kaspersky and are happy with it i suggest you stick with it for now.

Re: Vista Ultimate x64 Antivirus

Hi Damir

Just for the record, ESET's Nod32 Antivirus and Smart Security products are true 64-bit programs and will automatically be installed in ones Program Files folder.

I'm glad you're using a program like Kaspersky for your Antivirus. There's no doubt it's right up there with the best of them!

Warmest regards

Neil
