Sorry t-4-2,

I clicked that little mouse to death, but it's still a no go.

Oh well.

hello, Brink. Do you have a touchpad icon in the taskbar ? Go under it and double click. I got it every time.

Re: Windows Defender Trick

Nope, not on Avast or Windows Sidebar for me either. I was just curious about why it works on some and not others. No big deal.

Re: Windows Defender Trick

Sorry, but it doesn't work for me either (it sounds a bit hit and miss, anyway). A much better solution is to create a shortcut to the program and place it in your Quick Launch toolbar. To do this, click the start orb and type 'Windows Defender' into the search box. Right click on this program in the results panel and drag it to the Quick Launch area of your taskbar. Release the mouse button and from the menu that appears, select the 'Create Shortcuts Here' option. You now have a convenient shortcut available on your Quick Launch toolbar. Note that you may need to resize the toolbar in order to make this shortcut visible. The same method can also be used for any other programs that you want to be accessible in this way. Just substitute the name of the required program in place of 'Windows Defender' in the above instructions.

Re: Windows Defender Trick

I agree Dwarf, it's a bit of a hit and miss.

You could also dot the Always option in Windows Defender Tools and Options to have a icon in the Notification area.

Re: Windows Defender Trick

Shawn, point taken about the method to show Windows Defender in the notification area. However, I think that the default setting is better. Having the icon appear when the program detects something suspect means that you are made aware of the situation much sooner and are therefore more likely to do something about it before the problem escalates. I personally prefer to create a shortcut in the Quick Launch toolbar in order to manually run the program, but to have the notification icon appear when something is detected by it.
