Re: Antivirus 2008

This particular virus, after reading about the troubles with it here and on the net, is one of the worst viruses for people to get infected with. It's a royal pain to remove.

I'm not letting the fact that I haven't been infected with it, lure me in to a false sense of security though. What's saving my hide from a lot of these viruses, is because I have XD Technology(cpu DEP on by default), DEP for IE 7 turned on, and DEP for the OS turned on at all times. This goes hand in hand, with having a decent internet security package running.

You should go to the following website, and download the Malwarebytes anti malware program, install it and run it, it may help in removing this bugger.

Malwarebytes.org

Re: Antivirus 2008

I ran Malwarebytes and S&D. It would remove parts of the trojans but more would come in. Once it takes hold, it is easier to reinstall.

You're right there, it's easier to reinstall to totally get rid of it.

Ouch.
Just out of curiousity, (and to help it from happening to other users) How did you end up getting so throughly infected in the first place? IE runs in protected mode, and UAC would prevent automatic installation and execution.

NM.
I see you turned off UAC, and then mistakenly downloaded the malware antivirus.

Re: Antivirus 2008

CNN infected e-mail.

I turned off UAC and had my user as an administrator. I never had a serious virus attack in 25 years. I did not think it would happen.

It launched. Avast Pro 4.8 stopped 3 viruses but it infected with VirtuMonde.

On the reinstall. I left my user in default mode. I did enable administrator and gave it a 13 alphanumerical password along with my users.

Re: Antivirus 2008

I had the same issue with my system & Mcafee was unable to detect it. I downloaded & did a full system scan through super antispyware. It removed a couple of trojans. And then I scanned through Mcafee & then removed approximately 13 infections. Anti-virus 2008 would create an add-on in IE & make sure that gets removed. As that is causing the antivirus page to showup again & again.

And you can also follow instructions on the following websites:
