Filter Name: Query User.

I have problems connecting to the Internet at home. I can connect to my home network, I just can't access the Internet. My brother, however, can on his laptop.

When I run the 'Diagnose Connection Problems' tool, I get the following message:

'Security policy settings on this computer might be blocking the connection.

The following policy might need to be adjusted to allow Windows to connect:

Policy Provider: Windows Firewall
Filter Name: Query User

If the policy provider is identified is Windows Firewall, click for information about adjusting Windows Firewall settings. If a different policy provider has been identified, check the provider's documentation on how to adjust the policy settings.'

I followed the guides found here :http://www.vistax64.com/vista-security/162718-windows-firewall-problem-filter-query.html, and encountered a few problems, but pressed on anyway, only to find I have the same problem as before.

For those that can't be bothered to look at the link, it basically tells me to use the ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew tools within the Command Prompt Window.

It then says to reset the TCP/IP Stack, and to flush the DNS.

As it says to do it in that order, I did it in that order.

Can anyone tell me the messages I should get within the Command Prompt Window upon successful execution of the above commands, or if I am doing them in the wrong order (if it really matters).

If no one can help, then this is my last resort and I will simply buy a new laptop, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

i had that same problem it is simple, go to you LAN or wireless network connection(for laptop), right click, properties, click on Ipv4, and check your DNS, if it is on automatically obtain a dns, change it to use that DNS, 208.67.222.22 as prefferd DNS AND 208.67.220.200 as alternate, this is an opendns, it s fast, by the way need to do that on every PC that wants to get on your network.

I had the same problems as mentioned,
I was so in trouble,
what I did was first to go to network connections and then disable the network adapter, then I did a windows firewall reset by doing the steps below,
click start, and in the search bar type "wf.msc" and press enter
then when the window opens right click the "windows firewall with advanced security on local computer"and choose defaults after that.

then you will get a message shortly, then click yes. then restart the comp.

so now your windows firewall settings are reset,

now you have to reset the TCP/IP ,
to reset is simple just Google for "Microsoft fix" there you will have a small program which when installed, then after clicking it will automatically reset TCP/IP
there is also a manual method, but who cares if this thing solves automatically.
again restart the comp.

thats it!!!!

it took me a lot of time to figure this out,and no much information is posted on the net.
