Parental controls wont let me allow change

I have set up parental controls but when I try to allow a change, a box comes up asking me to put in the administrators password. However the field for the password is greyed out and it doesnt respond to any typing. There are two boxes - confirm or cancel. Confirm is greyed out too! so I cancel and the box disappears. No progress. This happens even if logged on as administrator. Any ideas?

When you are logged in as an administrator it should ask continue or cancel unless you have changed that.

When you are on the Administrator account it automaticly elevates everything (unless you have changed that too).

Try logging in from the built in account and see if that helps.

I solved it by following your instructions on enabling the Vista built in 'Administration' account ( I had to do it by booting up into safe mode). So this is different from setting an account up as an 'administrator'. I cant find anywhere in the Vista help or instructions that tells you to do this in order to run parental controls or explains this difference. Thanks you guys for solving the problem!

See you again.....
