Viruses and chest/remove

Hi all,

I am running Avast Anti-Virus and am happy with it, but due to my sheer stupidity of not scanning regularly I have had a few trojans found and a couple of Viruses, which I sent to the chest, but my query is: Why would I want to put them in the Chest? I've never really followed this to well and was always of the thought that it would be a case of a Anti Virus program finding a Virus and then giving you the option of repairing the file or removing it.

And therefore is it safe to tell it to remove it? as I would have no use for it to remain on my system, even though its safely away in the chest

Guess I need educating yet again, can't work anything out for myself can I? second thoughts, don't answer that lol :)

Hi J&H

The reason for the chest is if you have a virus on a file used by a certain program and the problem does not show for a while then you can at least check the file name to obtain a replacement. Also if you just deleted every file with a potential virus then you run the risk of deleting a file which is perfectly OK - sometimes virus checkers get it wrong

as an example ...

» AVG Windows XP Problem - Technibble - A Resource for Computer Repair Technicians & to get PC tech support help.

it's AVG again but XP this time :D

I normally leave any items in the chest for a week or so then delete them
