    Alternative browser?

    Hi Guys,

Concerning the Internet Explorer - New Zero-Day exploit in-the-wild, besides applying the workarounds advised, I've also seen it recommended to maybe use an alternative browser until this has been fixed.

I've only ever used IE7 and would like some advise please on which other browser I could use on Vista that would be the most secure.

I've been looking at Opera, Firefox and maybe K-melon or Google Chrome, but from a security point of view, don't know which to choose.

Any help is very much appreciated, thanks.

Firefox has great add-on support, especially noscript, which is useful for blocking unwanted sites that are automatically connected to when visiting the main site. (ie Advertising sites, dodgy sites)

You can also add themes that will make it look IE.

Opera and chrome are also good browsers, but lack add-on support. I haven't used either for a while so I can't vouch for their current security status.

Many people have different preferences regarding browesers, so the best thing would be to try a few. However my vote goes to Firefox 3.

    G'Day RedDawn,

After a recommendation from Norm Cameron, I have just finished downloading Firefox 3 [UK English], and sure some things do look a little different, but I have still retained my Windows Live Homepage. Overall, a simple and quick download.

Don't know if it's the 'newness', but it seems to load webpages quicker.

    cheers,

    sassofalco.

Thanks Guys you've both been very helpful. I was borderline between Opera and Firefox, I'm going to download Firefox now.

    All the best, RD.

I like Chrome too, it's quick and it's fast, but the lack of add ons are unfortunately a deal breaker for me. (I like my add ons )

I vote for FF3 too. The only drawback is staying up all night discovering all the add-ons. Speaking of which, make sure you get the add-on that backs them all up. I don't remember the name of it though.

    Just an update Guys,

Having a great time playing around with Firefox, just sorry I never tried it earlier, I might never go back to IE7 .

    So far I've installed:
    Adblock Plus
    No Script
    Flashblock
    McAfee SiteAdvisor
    Finjan SecureBrowsing

Thank again for your help, RD.
