What's annoying about it, are you having problems with it, if so what are they maybe we can help.

As far as I'm aware you cannot get rid of it as it comes as part of Vista, I can't see how it could be annoying though it's another layer of security which is what I thought everyone wanted.

Re: Defender....

If you open up WD and go to tools, options you can untick the 2 boxes under "Choose if Windows Defender should notify you about:" Only annoying thing about WD I can think of, but you ticked them at some point so...

I can give you a link to Antivirus 2009 malware you can test WD with - and Avira, Avast, NOD32, Norton 2009. If there is any chance you get infected with such evil you want WD I know WD might not catch all but same can certainly be said for other programs. I did some testing on an XP machine - doubt result would have been any different on Vista though, at least not the performance of AV/Antispyware.

One, may be good, reason to turn it off is per recommendations from AV maker. Norton for example disable WD during install. Avira highly suggest you turn if off as well, the resident part. Kaspersky, Avast dont mind too much. There are dif. advise from dif. sources. Well, see above why that can be argued.
