Vista Tutorial - trojan downloader! can i get rid of it?

Hello, yesterday a trojan dowloader got into my computer, here are the facts:

nod32 doesn't recognise it
avg the same
my windows defender says that it found a trojan downloader/win32... and asks me what to do with it i say delete but after a while the same message comes up.

i don't really know where to find it so that i can delete it but i have noticed lots of files that the day they were last altered was from 1998 to 2006 and i got my computer in 2007. most of them are exes from things i've never heard of but some are shortcuts for things that i use in this computer. Deleting them is a way of getting rid of the virus.
please notice that i don't care if i lose any personal data as long as my computer functions normally, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

It is worth trying a couple of free apps. and see what they come up with.

I would d/l , install. update and scan with these two freebies :

Malwarebytes.org

Use the malwarebytes Trial version - it is free forever if you update and scan manually.

SuperAntiSpyware - again get the free version and update and scan manually:

SUPERAntiSpyware.com - AntiAdware. AntiSpyware. AntiMalware.

Any details on the actual Trojan? What trojan is it?

You could try a system restore. When did the error pop-up?

If not, try running a scan with Adaware followed by Spybot Search and Destroy or even malware.

Thanks a lot for the advices. the pop up appeared yesterday night and it said trojan downloader/win32 and sth else that i don't remember. After i understood that i had the virus i went to my data and found a recent temp file that i couldn't delete. i went to safe mode and deleted it there is it possible that it was the virus and i deleted it?
last question: if i scan with all these programs and nothing comes up it means that i'm clean for sure?

If Defender still identifies what it thinks is an infected file, you can upload the file to Virus Total for further checks.

if the virus string says recycler in it, it's in the system restore files, the only way to get rid if it is to turn off system restore & turn it back on again
