Security problem

I'm not sure I have a problem but I need advise. I am running Vista Home Basic. I am using Avast antivirus. When I go to the security Central and I click on Malware protection I see the following: Spyware and other malware protection - Windows Defender and Avast antivirus both report they are turned on. Are these two in conflict with each other? If so how do I turn off Windows Defender? Thanks Bob

Re: Security problem

Hi Bobh,

Personally I run both the Windows Defender and my AV at the same time. I didn't find any conflicts between them so far. Perhaps, others will have different opinion about this.

If you really want to turn off Defender, in the Start Search box type System Configuration and run it as Administrator. In the System Configuration window click Services and scroll down to Windows Defender and unmark it, click Apply next OK. Reboot your computer.

Hope this helps. Cheers...

Re: Security problem

leave them both on different programs and will not interfere with each other, i am running both on my wife's laptop (Vista Home Premium X86) and my desktop (Vista Ultimate X64) and have no issues.

Re: Security problem

Confirming what Martee & fadedrs have said. Both progs should exist together in harmony. Certainly leave Defender on too.
