Hi tasaholic [cider or beer? ]
Guess it could be Morro you recommend to clients in the near future.

Re: AVG 8.5 Build 364 Vista 64 install problem

ran both of these:
avgremoverx64.exe
AVGIDPUninstaller.exe

When I attempt to install AVG a msg prompts me that another AV is installed (which I can't find) and the installation continues. After several modules install you can see it then start to uninstall. The avgremoverx64 tool has a very long log created including a very detailed analysis of the registry in which it finds nothing installed from AVG. Stranger than science.

lol..used to be both or any other combination of beverage going. Morro will have to prove to be better than MS's previous attempts. Far better to stick to a program designed by dedicated security companies IMHO, JMH.I have found that the more 'advanced' the security programs become the harder they are to uninstall cleanly. I don't understand why most of the uninstallers do not do a clean enough uninstall, leaving too much junk behind. We should not have to go get cleanup tools everytime we uninstall these programs.

Have you used anything like CCLeaner to clean your system? I'd use some "cleaner" progs, incl. a defrag before installing your new AV.,as there are often remnants left even after using the maker's removal tools.

Couldn't agree more. Remnants can cause so much system instability, wasted time & frustration hunting the bits that lurk behind.
[Perhaps it's just "good" marketing. Make the innocent consumer terrified of changing to another "brand"]

Re: AVG 8.5 Build 364 Vista 64 install problem

Ugashik Bob,
What a problem we have here involving Kaspersky, AVG & Avast!
What a valuable lesson you are learning. [ Most of us have been in your current situation at some time, although not with 3 anti virus progs installed / uninstalled in fairly quick succession. ]

I suggest your current options are
1.Do some computer "housework." [ disk cleanup, defrag, error checking ]
2.Get help from a tried & trusted local tech person near you. There is no shame in doing this.
3.If confident - Run in Safe mode - re run the 3 appropriate uninstall tools again. Reboot,
4.Delve into the registry via regedit. THIS CAN BE QUITE DANGEROUS UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
5.Although I don't generally recommend registry cleaners, & if you MUST use one, I agree with tasaholic re
CCleaner, but the slim build
- CCleaner - Builds

Good luck & please keep us posted.

Re: AVG 8.5 Build 364 Vista 64 install problem

1. Ran CCleaner Slim
2. Ran Ckdsk OK then cleanup then defrag.
3. Downloaded every AV uninstall pgm I could find.
4. Ran uninstall pgms again with AVG being the only one that really found anything.
5. Ran Windows installer Clean up and it detected nothing that appeared to be AV
6. Same with Revo uninstaller.
7. Ran AVG install with same errors.

I live in a very remote area of Alaska and not anyone local. Appreciate the help here.

Well, after doing 1 to 6, your system should be free of remnants. [don't like 7 though. ] Time will tell.
Is your computer stable & running smoothly?

Alaska eh. The remoteness appeals, but the severe cold. Brrrrrrrrr!
Good luck. [Please return if you have further questions.]

Ahh that sucks. Can you try installing any other AV like Avast?
BTW, if you are looking for a good free Av program, i will recommend go for Avast.
