Currently.. All i am running is The Windows Def. The windows firewall(one that came with computer) and AVG Free version. But someone said something about spyware? Malware protection? And btw... i DO-NOT trust Malwarebytes Anti-Malware anymore. My dads friend had the free version on his computer and when he came over, (my wireless internet has super duper scanners built in)(my dad's business servers r at our basement) so it scanned my dads friends laptop, and their was like some sort of worm/trojan -like thing inside of malwarebytes anti-malware! So i just dont trust it! But all i got is -->

AVG Free, Windows Def, and normal Windows firewall. Any advice for Malware protetion/spyware stuff? OR is anti-spyware built-into AVG?

AVG free is so, so (according to the professional tests). But some people seem to be happy with it. I prefer Norton IS09, Kaspersky IS09 or NOD32. They have had top ratings recently.

PS: I also use SAS (superantispyware) as a scanner. It is quite good.

Yea, I want NOD32, but I'm not willing to pay for anything. And not able to get it via torrent. (If anyone know what that is..) So yea :( I might check out Panda? is it any good?

Panda is relatively new, so I'm not sure what types of tests it's been put through

Oh and Windows Defender is a malware scanner. Spyware is malware, so you have a scanner already.

If you have been happy with AVG free, stick with it. It runs happily with Defender, the Win. firewall & SuperAnti Spyware.
[FWIW, we use AVG Anti Virus Pro here & see no reason whatsoever to change.]

their was like some sort of worm/trojan -like thing inside of malwarebytes anti-malware! So i just dont trust it!

LOL!!!

Just because there is a worm inside the MBAM folder does not mean MBAM put it there. Secondly a lot of these AV software packages use "quarantine files", which if scanned by another AV could show malware, thus making it look like MBAM is a trojan/worm/etc... I can asure you MBAM is safe, but then again what do I know :P

Regarding which AV to use, well, AV apps are a thing of the past.

If you secure your PC correctly you actually don't need an AV app. However, if I were to use AV products then I would go for these new cloud-based scanners. PandaCloud is currently free while its in Beta. And it does work. I scanned some 0day malware the other day and nothing was found. Waited for a few minutes and scanned again. Needless to say it was detected and deleted. Go Panda :D

If he knew how to secure his PC correctly, he probably wouldn't be asking for advice and would be getting paid to secure others systems.

Asking for advice is not a crime, infact it builds knowledge. Although suggesting that WinDefender is ok is bad advice IMO.

Rather than just suggest an AV app, I am suggesting way he can harden his system. I don't want his to think that AV along is ok, thats a huge mistake.

As for getting paid to secure systems I work for an anti-malware software developer. So yer ;)

You're offering bad advice by suggesting AV isn't needed, when the majority of people that read through this don't have any real training or actually understand how attacks are performed.

Like I said, IF you secure your computer correctly you don't need AV. Regardless of if you know how to or not, it doesn't change the fact you don't need AV.

Firewall
Anti-Virus/Malware
Cloud Anti-Virus/Malware
Behaviour Blocker
HIPS
Virtualization

Between all these types of products Anti-Virus wouldn't be high on my list. Almost always HIPs would come first, followed by a BB, and a firewall. If you could recommend 1 product from any of the above, or maybe more I have missed off, which would it be?

If you go down the Anti-Virus/Malware route, there is a good chance your AntiVirus will miss 0day threats, making it a pointless application to have in the first place.
