Recurring Security Alert

I am running Windows Vista x64.

This morning my computer started issuing security alerts notifying me that the firewall was off as was the malware. I turn the firewall on but under the malware section it indicates that it is reporting to the security centre in a format that is no longer supported. It also has a little Not Compatible icon to the right of the malware icon on the left. Once the firewall is turned on and the malware turns from red to yellow when we turn it on the shield in the bottom right of the screen goes yellow for a while but eventually it goes red again and I am again notified that the firewall is off and the malware is off as well.

I know my subscription is still in effect and according to the system it expires 10/03/2010.

Any ideas on why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Raquel

Please advise what security programs you have loaded on your computer.

Re: Recurring Security Alert

Hi there

Thank you for your reply. I have Windows Live Onecare All-In-One Security and Performance Service. Judging by the icon on the bottom of the packaging it appears it is icsa labs certified antivirus. Hope this helps.

Re: Recurring Security Alert

Did your computer come preloaded with an anti virus program?

Re: Recurring Security Alert

Yes they did the set up for me at Future Shop where I bought the computer and installed the Windows Live Onecare which comes with a one year subscription. I bought the computer and picked it up December 24, 2008. The Windows Live Onecare window indicates my subscription runs out on 10/03/2010. The software includes everything: antivirus, antispyware and firewall, online ID theft protection, file and photo backup, performance tune ups, and home network management.

The package says it is Certified for Windows vista, includes Westcoast labs Checkmark and the other icon is icsa labs certified antivirus.

I tried uninstalling the Windows Live Onecare and then reinstalling it but that didn't seem to help

Re: Recurring Security Alert

I think the problem may have resolved itself!! I went into Check for New Updates and there was the Windows Vista Service Pack 2 waiting to be downloaded and installed. I downloaded and installed it and when I went back onto the computer I wasn't getting anymore security alerts like before. I went into Control Panel and checked the computer's security and everything is turned on and green including the antivirus malware/spyware.

The computer even seems to be running faster again!!

Thank you so much for your assistance and your prompt replies. I'll give it a test drive and if I no longer get security alerts throughout the day I will report so you know the problem has been resolved for sure.

Thanks again!!!!!!!
