Its your chice of choosing a suitable AV for the computer.. All the Paid AV was once a free downloads.. not to forget.. Problem with the Free Beeis is that they do not get updated when new virus are found on the computer .. my suggestions for a freebiee is malware and super anti spyware...

A coworker got a virus that no matter what we did with ESET any anti-virus program/malware program the virus would shut it down. Then the virus would rename itself. After two hours we called ESET and it took about an hour with ESET to get rid of the virus. Then ESET said to send in the virus as it was a new one to ESET. Without ESET we would still be working on the issue. So the decision is yours.

No, we shut down recovery. We are not entirely inept. We tried Restore. No good. We loaded Malwarebytes and it would start then the virus would shut it down. There were new registry entries found. ESET was shut down. We then tried several other malware programs. All got shut down. Then ESET said to load Combofix. This was able to run it's full course, isolate and elimate the virus/trojan. It was the nastiest virus I have seen. When you logged onto the internet any old page would load. Just nuts. When it was done ESET said to send in the quartined package as this looked to be a new threat. Man, what a bit in the but.
This is pretty much the virus I have.

Although I thought of for a long time just going into the registry and removing the damn infected entries. Sources said it was "risky" though so I'm handing it over to a technician.

Avast updates virus definitions everytime I sign on. It is the free version and very god. In fact there was a new free version that just came out a few weeks back.

What kind of program. If it's something that will run a pc scan (which it has to do to detect the malware) the crap will shut it down. This is basically what the virus does. It changed something in the registry so that anything running a scan will not only detect it but shut down. It is pointless downloading anything to remove the virus. I'm going to have to start editing registry keys and/or boot from a cd or usb with an OS and run an AV scan on either. The key is that I have to be outside of windows to remove it.
