SOLVED

Hi, I am COMPLETELY new to Vista Forums!

I have a big problem... I recently got my computer cleaned thru eRecover in Acer. When all that was done, I installed McAfee 2009 ( thru a website for free... ) and i noticed my computer got REALLY slow...

I uninstalled it, and i got McAfee Security ( I got it for free since I have ComCast Internet )

Ever since, my Anti-Virus has constantly been turning off. One time, it even said that McAfee Virus Scan was never installed...

Oh, and I also downloaded a torrent. ( Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 )

My anti-virus STILL keeps on turning off...

Please help!

Hi, I am not such a computer science pro but since no one has answered you yet I thought just hearing someone’s opinion might make you feel better.
Since your anitvirus keeps turning off I would say this is a crucial matter.
I never download file cleaners or registry cleaners and spy removers and the like because it seems they do more harm than good.
I recently downloaded the free version of Mcafee too and it never even opened when i tried to open it.
I owe that to my system being compromised if you care to read the post I will make after I finish replying to you. The advice I would give to you is ; You can do a system restore to the closest point before you did the computer cleaner, that would be the simplist choice.
Or I hope you have the original software discs that came with your computer
so you can reinstall your computer software.
Copy any documents, pictures etc onto a usb or cd and hold them till you reinstall.
The system restore should work fine though, I would not use that computer cleaner anymore and the Mcafee doesn’t seem to work with vista. I have it on an old computer and it still checks for viruses, but it didn’t open up on my vista.
I use Norton security 2008. I don’t know if you can purchase it anymore.
It has better options for manipulating firewalls and programs. Its logs show the ip addresses that connect to you and it has an option to remove unwanted shared folders that the newer versions don’t have. I have tried 2009 and norton 2010 and like 2008 much better so I keep it. I would definitely invest in a store bought or online bought firewall. I have never tried "Zone alarm" but heard good things about it and its only 30 dollars on the internet. Or you can inverst twenty more dollars and get the Norton, you might even get a fair deal and find an online coupon for Norton, which ever protection you get, just dont get the anitvirus , get the security one, the security blocks all viruses plus also helps you protect your computer from attacks,
and I seem to keep getting attacked constantly, get this, I have roaming files and I dont have wireless. I would repair your computer right away.
Hope this helped.
I honestly don’t think there is any other way around it,
you have to undo what that cleaner did
and the only way to do it is go back before it happened or reinstall your computer software which is very easy.
Take care.

Hallo Salil, I am not familiar with McAffee but i have seen others post with the same problem.
If i recall correctly the fix was to uninstall McAffee and then run uninstall tool (in safe mode)
You can download the McAffee Uninstall from the link provided in this post
http://www.vistax64.com/system-security/261003-list-anitvirus-removal-tools.html put together by one of our members.
You can enter Safe mode by repeatedly tapping F8 during startup, once you have run the tool restart your computer.
You can now install then update your latest version of McAffee & hopefully your problems should be resolved if not post back & see what solutions other members may have. :D
Just a note if McAffee has its own Firewall then make sure Windows Firewall is turned off :)
