Virus closing down explorer and other services upon login

Hi I am thoroughly frustrated by a virus I picked up. At first it started closing DCOM and rebooting -I had seemed to solve the DCOM problem by instructing it to restart instead of rebooting my PC- By advice I tried Malwarebytes disconnected from my modem and in safe mode. It found a bunch of trojans and a worm and it supposedly removed them. In spite of this, Google search and Yahoo search contined to redirect my queries to advertising sites, but my PC seemed to operate normally otherwise. I then ran AVG disconnected from the web -avg only does command line in safe mode so I used it in regular start up- prior to going to bed on the 3rd night, and upon waking, I noted that AVG had a list of infections it couldn't remove. My PC was locked up so bad that I couldn't even turn it off by the on off switch, so I had to shut it down using the power source switch. After rebooting Windows issued an error message stating that explorer has stopped working and needs to shut down. When I tried to access the Task Manager, I got a similar warning for that. Now I get errors that search host process and many other processes have shut down. In Safe mode, explorer and task manager load correctly. Unfortunately, my PC is all but useless in Safe mode. Foolishly I went to Microsoft's website and got useless advice to run Defender. Defender, in my memory, has never succeeded in curing a virus. With that, I was advised to try Microsoft's malware remover, unfortunately the fact that I can only boot in safe mode was ignored, Windoze' malware remover doesn't work in safe mode. Since then Malwarebytes doesn't work anymore, even after reinstallation -windoze' can't seem to find the exe file-. when I try to run the supposedly non-existent .exe file Vista simply ignores the command. Before we start, I do not have a Vista disk nor did I have a system restore date set prior to getting the virus, so please don't even go there. If I get that advice again I'm going to rip my hair out, lol. I have an old XP disk that always worked fine for me prior to Vista, but when I boot from CD it doesn't acknowledge my harddrives -I've never had that problem with the XP disk prior to installing Vista. Soooo, I once again seeked help and was told I have to make a boot disk to install over Vista. I'm in safe mode, my CD\DVD burner is useless arrrrggghhh. Why does it seem that Microsoft is making it impossible to fix this problem? Please help, Thank you

At this point the best option would be to backup your data and reinstall the operating system.. There's not a whole lot of advise we're able to give pertaining to a virus that seems to have hosed your system.

A shot in the dark, but nothing to lose at this point. Boot up and go to safe mode. In safe mode you will see start with last known good configuation. Give that a try and see what happens. At this point there is nothing to lose, since you have to reinstall anyway.

If you are able to restore in this way, first thing I would do is run an anti virus scan.

.

You

The problem is that I don't have a copy of Vista. I do have a copy of XP however. The problem I'm having is that when I boot off the XP disk it tells me that there are no harddrives detected ya' know like in Windows 95 days. So every avenue to solve this problem is closed to me. That's why I made the rant that it seems like Microsoft by design is making it impossible for me to solve this problem. I have installed XP more times than I can count and have never had problems seeking out the harddrive. If the HD was damaged I wouldn't be talking to you right now in safe mode, so I don't understand why The XP disk can't find either of my HDs

You do have a Windows Vista disc, correct? What brand of computer do you have? Or is it self built? You might have a recovery partition..

You have a Trojan virus. There are a few ways around this but the essential part is that you need to download Trojan Killer

Trojan Killer

If your computer needs a Vista recovery disc try

Windows Vista Recovery Disc Download — The NeoSmart Files

Best of luck!

I had the same problem and the virus actually disabled my taskmgr.exe . Thanks to you for sharing about this program "Trojan Killer".

Totally didn't know about this until it fixed my task manager. Though i don't know what else is actually killing my laptop...

But still...really thanks dude !!
