white smoke

I purchased the grammar program white smoke about a month ago, and soon began having problems with corrupted file (see thread "screen"). Forgetting about white smoke, I did many things, including running SFC which showed that some files were corrupted but couldn't be repaired. But it worked -- for a while, then the problem came back, temporarily solvable by sfc-ing.

Sanning for a virus with Avast, 7 infected files were found (why weren't they found earlier automatically?); two additional infected files were found on the boot scan -- invovling the white smoke program. Removing all 9 files seems to have done the job.

Now I am afraid to go to white smoke even to complain. Anybody else have this problem or suggestion?

Thanks.

Welcome
I just checked the Whitesmoke site and it seems legit.
Your post seems to contain several questions.
The first why was the virus not detected in real time. There are many possiblities. One is that you did not keep the virus definitions up to date. A second is that the virus that was caught was new at the time and was not included in the definitions of the anti virus. Finally, it could have been written in such a way to fool the AV. Whatever the answer it is a common occurence and that is why the AV has scans.
This article will give an even better explanation

I do not use White Smoke, but did just visit the site because of your post. I do not expect any problems, it looks like a legit, reputable, certified site.
I will run a scan tonight and if I find any problems, I will post by tomorrow morning, but I doubt that it will be necessary.
May I also suggest that you install WOT on your browser, it is an additional warning of dagerous sites. I have it and WhiteSmoke did not set off a warning

Edit: The site is fine here is a report that I generated for you
