Security Protection, can't access task manager.

A few days ago I took some steps to remove Vista Repair from my laptop. I'm no pro, but I use Malwarebytes, McAfee, and Spybot. I was hoping it was gone.

I got back on for the first time again today and found Security Protection had blessed me with its presence. As you probably know, I can't open a thing, not Task Manager, not Command Prompt... As I understand it, all programs under a name other than defender.exe will be blocked. I tried searching for the file, and got nothing. Then I went under Folder Options and made hidden files visible. Not only could I still not see defender.exe but I saw that Vista Repair was still there.

There was a Security Protection icon on my desktop, and I went to the file location from there and tried deleting and it didn't work.

I'm not sure what I can do considering even my most basic resources aren't available to me.

A lot of people recommend systems restore, but I'm not skilled enough for that.

Thanks.
MMC.

Thank you so much.

I didn't notice any issues on my laptop until a few months ago, tops. Would it negatively affect the restore if I chose a point even a few months before that, just to be sure?

My Computer

This is what restore does, it will remove or reinstall any changes that you made to your OS, for the period in question. It does not change your personal stuff; pics, documents, etc.
In another words, if you installed software yesterday and you go back to last week, that software will no longer be installed.
Restore is not suppose to create any problems if you go back two months, but some members here have said that is not in agreement with what has happened to them. I have gone back a month, however, without problem.
If you are not doing this in safe mode, you can cancel or go back further, if points, are available if you are not happy with the results. One more thing, good luck

Just a note, If you use Defraggler to defrag make a new restore point after as they seem to get deleted during the defrag.
I'm told Ausloigic defragger does not have this problem.

Thanks a lot guys. I did a systems restore and everything is back to normal. Except for one thing...of course. Mozilla Firefox won't open for me. I keep getting a Firefox Crash Report. Internet Explorer still works fine, so it isn't like I don't have internet, I just kind of prefer Firefox.

Nice to know that we have helped
YOu may want to read this about firefox
Firefox does not work | Troubleshooting | Firefox Help
If it still does not work, may I suggest
Uninstall
Download ccleaner to make sure that all remnants are removed
(Ccleaner should be used as once a week maintenance, in any event)
Then install, again. It should work.
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Uninstalling Firefox

I think that this problem will be resolved with the changes that I have suggested.
May I also suggest
The use of Microsoft Security Essentials in lieu of Mcafee. Mcaffe will use a lot more of your resources and Security Essentials was created by Microsoft and is only for Windows, who can protect you better than the makers of Windows. In addition turn of Defender, it is part of Security Essentials and is not needed with Essentials
As an extra bonuse donwload Secuni PSI, it will notify you when any of your software has issued Security updates, to help even more with your security and avoid future problems.

Feel free to post any additional questions regarding security, maintenance or performance that you may have.
Have a nice Fourth Holiday.
