Does malwarebytes slow down the pc

patch41

Vista Pro
Hi Folks , I have a friend who has a laptop 1g memory 65g hardrive 64 bit, I had installed malwarebytes, and also spybot as i think they are two good programs, and he had norton 360 which came free with his comcast subscription, another friend of his came along and removed norton said it was to heavy a program and installed free avg, he also removed malwarebytes and spybot, he said they slow down the computer to much, now i know if you are running anti-virus or malware, and you run a program at the same time it slows the program considerably, but if they are not running are they slowing down the computer just sitting on the hardrive.
thanks, patch41

Malwarebytes, the free version, will not slow the computer at all, except when doing a scan. The software uses little resources and the effect will be hardly noticed. You do not need the pay version if you have a good anti virus.

Norton is renowned for hogging the CPU so if you're looking for speed, then that's a good first step :) I don't think AVG is all that much better to be honest, there are far better programs out there

Malwarebyte's is a very light program - especially the free version as it doesn't offer real time protection. I would recommend that you remove all existing AV and anti spyware software on your system, and replace them with:

Microsoft Security Essentials
Malwarebytes' Anti Malware

MSE is nice and light, has good detection rates and works very well with Windows. MBAM also offers high detection and removal rates and should be used for weekly scans
