Can't boot up or restore after virus

I've been working on my husband's laptop for 3 days and am at my wit's end. I was finally able to get most of the trojan viruses off of his computer. There was one left and I was able to isolate it. He screwed up some of his drivers, somehow, and I couldn't even access his Windows Defender. I put Microsoft Security Essentials on his computer and was running a full scan last night. I let it go overnight and when we woke up this morning, it was at Windows Boot Manager screen. File: \Windows\System32\Drivers\36d67c9a3115e3fc.sys Status: 0xc0000098 Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

I've tried F2 at startup, trying to get to system recovery but that option is not available. Only the usual Safe Mode, etc. options. He has a Cyberpower custom built laptop so I tried inserting the startup cd that came with it to try a recovery reboot when I start it up but again, it's like it isn't even recognizing the cd is in. It just goes on to the Windows Boot Manager screen. I've tried hitting F8 to repair or restore the computer when loading but that isn't working, either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I throw this laptop out the window. Thanks!!

The problem with that is, I can't even get the startup disc to initialize. When I start the laptop, it goes straight to the Windows Boot Manager screen showing Windows failed to start message.

Dang, are you able to open up the laptop, with power off, and access the cmos battery on the motherboard ? If you feel capable of doing this, make sure to ground yourself, we want to avoid static electricity, and remove the battery on the motherboard, bout size of a nickel . leave out for bout 5 min. reinstall it. and put casing back together, and see if this sets the Bios to default . See if you can at this time use your start up repair functions in F8 if it lets you.
I had to do this with a neighbors computer once, was the only dang thing that worked. Post back results .

He took the back off but no. Not seeing the battery. He's pretty well just dismantled the whole thing. Something tells me, the cost of repair is going to be moot. I suspect a new laptop for him may be in order.

K,, great, now just wait bout 5 min. install it, and put all that back together, without making any static electricity, stay grounded. Then power up and see if you can access the F8 for repairing the computer.

Sadly, no. It didn't work. Still doing the same thing. Looking like a new laptop may be in order, I'm afraid.

I very much appreciate that. Plus, I restarted the computer and now it's stuck on the initial screen where Press F2 to enter SETUP is found. Lovely.

Are you able to set Bios to boot from dvd/cd as first ? btw, did you reset date of computer ? ya need to , if you have not done so yet. Pulling battery changes the date of it.
