Firewall Won't Turn On

As aforementioned, the firewall will not turn on. When I try to turn it on, I get this message:

Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall service?

When I click yes, it says it's starting the Windows Firewall service, then I get this message:

Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall service.

In Start Menu, search box type Services. When it shows highlighted hit Enter. Scroll down to Windows Firewall.

If it says Disabled in the Status column, right click on Windows Firewall. and click Properties. There's a drop-down box in the middle that says Startup Type. Set it to Automatic. Now up in the top left corner there should be a link you can click that says Start. It should let you start it now.

Hello, i wonder if malware is stopping this process ? Have you tried using free of malwarebytes , latest version, updated data base and scanned ?

It sounds like some code substituted itself for firewall. But I'm no expert on Windows Firewall. Once I get my network working I keep backup images and hope the damn thing never goes wrong. :)

Tried that, said one thing was found. How would I get rid of it?

If Malwarebytes finds something there should be a Show Results Button or something along that line visible in the lower right corner. Press the Button. There will be a list and it will have action such as quarantine selected and the box for that item checked. Push the button to quarantine or delete selected items.

It should have prompted you to press the Show Results Button when the dialog popped up. Otherwise the dialog says no bad thingies found.

Yeah, totally didn't see that the first time I scanned.

It says... vendor: adware softomate category: registry key. That good? I'm assuming I'd just then go to "remove selected"?

Still same for me, remove it. Thinking about this firewall issue still , most puzzling.
