Solved VIRUS or SCAM or WHAT?

I'm in big trouble.

I was playing Words with Friends on Facebook when an obtrusive window popped up asking me to download something... well, I had was in the process of downloading a game at the same time and thought this was the prompt to install the game... it wasn't. Now no matter what I click I get a form to buy Vista Antispyware 2012 and the screen won't go away. So I decided to go ahead and buy it for $59. so I could get
rid of it and it refused my perfectly good credit card.

Now I am worried. I called the bank and had the credit card stopped. But I still can't use anything. I'm using a friends computer to write this. Is this really from Vista? One screen says I have virus "Trojan-BNK.Win32.keylogger.gen".

Is there anything I can do? I can't get emails so I'll have to check back.

No, sorry it is not from Vista. It is a scam to get your money. I think that the wrong people, now, have your credit card. Its goof you called the back and reported it, so that you will have leverage if any phoney charges appear. In addition, ask for a new number.
That being said, I will get the help of our experts, Jacee, to solve the computer problem. If you follow my instructions and those of Jacee, your problem will be quickly resolved. She is one of our best, it will be worth the wait. Good luck

If it says Trojan, it's a virus. You did a good job calling the bank, then at least they don't get the money. Try uninstalling the program or resetting your computer to factory conditions or an earlier saved state. Or you could get a legit antivirus program that will get rid of that one, but that's if the Trojan will let you install it.

I will wait. I can't seem to download anything. I found a way to bypass and get on the web but I can't get my emails. I have a link on my desktop to Big Fish Games and for some reason it is the only one not blocked... from their site I can get to Internet. I have to keep closing those darned windows. No hurry, I'm going to bed now and will be at work until late afternoon tomorrow so I hope I hear from Jacee by then. So no hurry.

In that Bleeping Computer guide. Automated instructions, step 3. if you can not do that, you best start looking for a clean computer to make the cd/dvd or flash drive to use now. If you can change passwords or anything from the computer you are using now, then by all means do so. In the meantime, you may want to un hook the infected computer from the internet til you are able to start fixing it.

I managed to open AVAST and do a scan, deleted two threats, and then did a boot scan. I still am locked out of all my programs. When I try to open something a box comes up asking me what program I want to open it with.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP???? I'M VERY FRUSTRATED.

These are to open files... I can't open programs. My mail program, my Internet browsers, my genealogy program, my PSP7, my games.... This is a nightmare.

I managed to get Avast open and scanned my disk, did a boot scan (took all day) and now the popups are thankfully gone but I can't get anything to work.

I have no idea what program I need to open other programs.

Barbee,

I'm not sure what you meant. Were you able to merge the .reg file downloads for the .exe and .lnk options?

Since you were able to scan your system at boot, you might see if you may be able to do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this all happened to hopefully undo the damage.

I tried doing a restore but nothing happened when I clicked restore. Since the first hard drive I had in this computer crashed 3 yrs ago and Geek Squad installed a new drive I have not been able to use restore. Not sure why. I did not try the link you gave me above because I am afraid. It sounds complicated. I'm not much of a computer geek. I have "logmein" so my son in another state can help me with this type of stuff, but I can't get that to open either. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

My Computer

:pOK I did it and it worked!!! I'm fixed. HUGS to you for your help. At first it didn't want to open but I kept clicking and finally it worked. I only did .exe do I have to do the other one too?

My Computer

That's great news Barbee. No need to use the .lnk download if everything is working fine now. :)
