Yesterday, realized I had Vista Home Security 2012 virus. I ran malwarbytes to remove, but I can't open security center. I attempted manually, but there is no security center choices under services in startup menu.

Can u help?

system restore only had 12/14 as an option to restore. I attempted to create manually, I put "12/12/11" in create a restore point but it restored to todays date.

What do I put to create a restore point of 12/12?

The only thing that you can do is when you see the date, look bottom left, tick for extra points, if any.

Re: create new restore point problem

You cannot create restore point for the past. You can only go back to ones that exist.
run a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes. Unless a truly bad virus, one of the aformentioned can clean up the computer.

i am having the same problem. i tried services.msc and i could find security center listed under services, and windows defender and windows firewall aren't working either.

i don't want to to do a system restore since this computer is shared.doing this will destroy a lot of files especially my mom's millions of pics saved on this computer.

is there anyway to reinstall windows security center? or can anyone give me safe .reg file that has all the windows security, windows firewall, and windows defender's correct registry key entries?

i'm using a windows vista 32bit home premium computer if that helps.

System restore is not suppose to touch personal documents. To be sure back them up first.

I had similar. I use my ISP security services, (virginmedia), with the inbuilt Vista security. I use Vista Home Premium on an ok PC. I think the prob first appeared after installing Google Chrome, I noticed that after installation I would have 30-40 reported incidents caught by my security services on a scan. I started to do manual scans almost daily after using Chrome, with the same results, so I blocked internet access to Chrome auto updater and everything else to do with Chrome, apart from the main access, this stopped the incidents. But sometimes starting my PC my ISP security services icon would show in the tray and be shown working in the task manager but I could not open it or my VistaHS either. I restarted in Safe mode and could find nothing untowards, but when I restarted both security services worked properly. I use this as a work around, I start PC and WAIT for all to start, then if I cant open my security services I switch it off, NOT shut down and force the safe mode options on restart, let safe mode start and then select RESTART and that seems to solve the problem.
I know the guru's will say it is a confict with Virgin and Vista security services however I disagree I have been running the sys for over 3 years with this set up, the only difference is GOOLE CHROME!!!!
