Avast Antivirus (Rescue Disk).

My computer HP Presario for some unknown reason is now unable to make a "Restore Point" or "Backup". I am now using Avast Antivirus software (Free), and note a "Rescue Disk" application is available, and I have made a copy on a USB flash drive. I would appreciate information and advise as to how it works? Is this "Rescue Disk" entirely different from Windows Restore Point? How is the USB "Rescue Disk" activated? Thank you, BobbyScot.

This is what you do. It is easy and it is the best. Download the free Macrium Reflect. Its only purpose is to make back ups. You will then make a rescue disk that is only used when you have to rescue your computer
Once a week you back a back up image (very similar to system restore point). If you ever have a problem and you cannot boot, you use the rescue disc to boot and then you put the most current image on your hard drive. You are up and running again. The avast is not the same. It allows you to get the computer to boot, but if you have a virus or other problems you will still have them. With Macrium, you get rid of the old and install a new image.

Re: Avast Anti virus (Rescue Disk).

rich46, thank you for response to my thread. I tried out Macrium Reflect, however no trace could be found on HD selected of back up image saved. As a matter of interest, Avast, how do you open its backup? Thanks BobbyScot.

Read the tutorial about using Macrium. If you use it correctly you will have an image (put it on an external hard drive)

I am not familiar enough with the rescue disc to give more information, but all it does is allow the computer to boot, so that you can try and remove the virus if any.

I did try Macrium Reflect, however at power down, blue screen was filled with numerous writing "Windows is closing to safeguard computer from damage". After a completely removing MR from computer, blue screen has not been repeated, well I hope so. My computer must have a severe fault as any attempts to obtain a Windows Restore Point, is met with a caption "Catastrophic Error x.8000fff.
