Re: Task Manager - Enable or Disable

hi,

somehow, I erased several applications... I no longer have: task manager, run (in "start"), system configuration and power ("start" shows only "logg off");

I tried the method with download to enable task manager or power, but, error,

what should I do?

Re: Task Manager - Enable or Disable

Hello Dauphine, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If you are not sure how this happened, then you might run a thorough virus and spyware scan to be safe. That error message is usually a sign on malware if you did not do it.

Method Three in this tutorial will show you how to enable the Registry Editor (regedit) again.

Regedit - Enable or Disable

Since this just recently happened, you might consider doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before this happend.

Hope this helps,

Cool Re: Task Manager - Enable or Disable

I generally shy away from forums - I am tech challenged and the mere thought of them sends me running

However, I came with a problem and not only was it easy to find a thread relating to the issue that needed resolving, but the answer, too, in a clear and precise manner.

THANK YOU for your invaluable help. I was going spare!
~Shay.

Re: Task Manager - Enable or Disable

Your welcome Unreal, and welcome to Vista Forums.

There is no particular individual virus responsible for this. There can be a few that are instead. I would recommend running a thorough antivirus (ex: Avast) and spyware (ex: Spybot Search & Destroy) scan with a variety of programs to see if they can find and remove it for you.

You might post this in the System Security forum to see if anyone may know the names of any of them to look for.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
