Hi Brink, I've read the whole topic.
I do NOT want to do a system restore point, because my system has important stuff.
And I'm kinda too lazy to read about back up and stuff.
When I first got this error of death.
I resorted to creating a new account.
No error for a day.
Next day, the error appeared on the NEW account.
So yeah, it will keep appearing.
Any other things to do beside System Restores?
I wouldn't mind a link for a topic that would help.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Well, other than a System Restore, you can try a repair install. However, a System Restore is a lot less riskier, and either way you should backup anything that you do not want to lose to be safe.

I've posted on this here when I had the identical problem, trying to fight it tooth and nail. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO FIX IT OTHER THAN SYSTEM RESTORE!

Well, I've already lost like 5O% of my folders.
They're still in my profile non loading account.
But they cannot be found.
I have no more hope in doing this. Time for system restore.
Any help on this? I've never restored my computer because I NEVER GET KA-FRIGGIN BUGS UNTIL NOW !!

I beat the UAC by putting it in silent =D
to do so.

I used your Option 1 to restore my profile and it worked. I had many S-1-5... lines but only two of them stood out. Anyway, it worked beautifully.

You had told/asked someone, in one of your comments, that no one really knows what causes this problem (User Profile Service failed the logon) and to report any significant software changes that people might do on their computers, well I have one.

A brief history, I've built my own machine (CPU) and I'm the only Administrator on this computer. I've had this machine for over a year and several months, and never had a problem like this (User Profile Service failed the logon) ever. I don't have my cpu on Automatic update but recently I downloaded IM (Messenger; and the latest version of..), so this has been the only significant change to my cpu in a long time. To me, other than the normal MS updates, this might be the culprit. Please let me know what you think.

Hi all,

After many months of trouble free use, I have the same problem as identified here. I have two user accounts one is an admin account (and this is the one with the log-in problem) and my son's standard account.
I have tried the following...
renaming .bak files but receive ...cannot rname file as error while renaming message
deleting the account, but need admin privs to do this!
system restore, but need admin privs to do this!
reinstalling vista, but asks for admin password too!
tried to entered safe mode by pressing F8 - nothing happens - I have tried both the continuous and intermittent methods of pressing F8
I have entered safe mode screen by turning off pc at the wall, but am unable to move to any of the options on the screen - neither mouse nor arrow keys allow me to navigate.

Therefore I am becoming increasingly frustrated and would welcome your guidance. Please don't just redirect me to the tutorial as I have been through it all
