Re: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

The one with "install vista: service pack 2" was the restore point created automatically before the installation of SP2. It will not have SP2, so you would have to reinstall it through Windows Update again after doing a system restore using that restore point and any with a older date than it.

If you are able to, be sure to backup anything that you do not want to lose first to be safe though.

SP2 = Windows Vista Sevice Pack 2. It can normally be installed through Windows Upates in the Control Panel.

If you would like to, you can read more in depth details about it in the note box at the link below though.

No matter what I do, i could not delete the account or fix it as I'm using a non-administrator account. I also could not rename the .bak file.
What should I do?

Hello Celeste, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You must be logged into a administrator or built-in Administrator (STEP ONE section) to be able to edit the registry.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

I never had this problem before, and I installed SP2 and then this happened. I followed all your steps, the part about having to .bak stuff and it all worked, I got everything back, but my question is should I somehow back those two up somehow and copy them to my thumb drive so this never happens again?

Hello Nuke, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I'm happy to hear that you got this fixed.

Sorry, but that wouldn't save your user profile as a backup.

The best thing you can do for this is to keep good backups of your files that you do not want to lose, and a system image backup using a program Macrium Reflect since you do not have Vista Ultimate that includes this feature. If you have enough hard drive space, keeping system restore points (see links below) can be handy to help make fixing problems like this easier.
