Re: Search Context Menu Item - Restore After Vista SP1

Many items for XP will also work with Vista, so you could give it a try to see. To be safe, I would create a restore point first in case you need to do a System Restore afterwards to repair the registry.

I hope it works for you.

Re: Search Context Menu Item - Restore After Vista SP1

I did as you recommended. It added the "Search" as I'd hoped. So far, so good. Do you know how it's done, yourself? If not, would you like the ".exe" file that I used? I'd be happy to pass along to anyone else this may help. It wasn't a RegEdit command, as I 1st thought.
Thx.

TWF498,

I'm happy to hear that it is working for you so far. Sure, please post a link to where you got it from and I'll take a look at it to see what I can do with it to adapt it for a possible tutorial.

Thank you,
Shawn

Re: Search Context Menu Item - Restore After Vista SP1

So, you don't just want me to upload the .exe file, from my computer? I see there's a place to add attachments, in the posts. Either way, it's fine w/me.
Thx.

I don't mind if you attach it in a ZIP file. It's just that I will not be able to view the contents of the file to see what changes it makes, but other may decide to use it anyway to help them.

Re: Search Context Menu Item - Restore After Vista SP1

Hmmm...A Zip file, not a .exe file? Maybe it's best to just include the page's URL where I found it - Right, on Line #138 "Google Search from IE's Right-Click Menu" @ Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP - I really hope you'll figure out something...a Vista Tutorial would be great. Especially, if there's others that would like this feature, for Vista.
Thx.

Re: Search Context Menu Item - Restore After Vista SP1

Thank you twf498.

The newer IE8 beta offers this feature, but in a different way. You highlight what you want to search and click on the small box with a arrow above it to search with any default search provider (ex: Google) that you had set for IE8. That way you can just click on it once instead of having to modify IE7.

LOL, it's called an Accelerator feature in IE8 now. Go figure. It works pretty well.

Internet Explorer 8: Faster and easier

Hope this helps,
Shawn
