Security Properties Tab - Restore or Remove

How to Restore or Remove the Security Tab in Vista

information   Information
This will show you how to restore or remove the Security tab in the Properties window of all folders, files, shortcuts, and drives for all users on the computer.

The Security tab is not available on file and folder properties in Windows Vista Home Premium, Vista Home Basic, and Vista Starter editions. The Security tab also is not available if you are using the FAT or FAT32 file system.

Shawn,

Just one question, does this remove it only for Normal Users (non-administrators), only for folders with Deny permissions set or what? Thanks! Anyway, thanks for all these really great tutorials!

Did you have the D: drive encrypted (ex: BitLocker) ?

You might see if enabling and logging in as the built-in Administrator may be able to allow you access.

i tried with build-in administrator but still cant see the security tab and can't access drive D:
Where can i check if a have drive encrypted?

My Computer

What is the exact error message that it gives you when you try to open the D: drive?

Do you have a Security tab for your C: drive?

Please post a screenshot of your Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) showing your drive layout to see if something may standout.

Here is my problem in pictures. The security tab is active for drive C: but how can this help me?

I've read smewhere that i can run a Linux live cd with suse(i think that latest SUSE can read NTFS),and to mount the D: drive.Theni can transfer data without attributes in usb flash for example.

The other option is to Default NTFS Permissions ,but i'm not sure how excacli it works.

THANKS!

My Computer

Bahanov,

Looking at your C: was to just confirm whether the Security tab was missing for all drives or not.

This sounds like you have been infected by a virus or some other malware. You can try to see if you are able to scan the D: drive with a good antivirus program and the free Malwarebytes program.

If not, then you might lose you files using this next option to be able to use the D: drive again.
  • Right click on the D: drive, and click on Format.
  • Give UAC permission.
  • Do a Quick Format (checked) on the D: drive. Do not do a full format. If you do a full format, then there will be little chance to recover your pictures.
  • Use the free program Recuva to see if you may be able to recover your pictures from the D: drive.

Hello Hisariaraunak, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Did you already try the tutorial on the first page to see if it may help?

If so, then you may be able to do a system restore using a restore point dated before you had this issue to hopefully fix it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello Brink !!!!!
The given alternatives don't work.
I tried each and every one.
And at that moment my mind gave me the answer. In win7 admin account is inactivated.
Just activate that account and change security settings from the properties option.
Its so damn simple !!!!!!!!
