| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Create a Recovery Disc Bhakeman, I say since you already have a set of recovery discs, go for uninstalling it to save some HDD space and a few resources that it uses. |

| Vista x64 | Re: Create a Recovery Disc This sounded just like the solution I was looking for. I am servicing a new DELL quad processor 64bit Vista machine and need to create recovery disks. I downloaded the resdisk (64 bit) version, moved it to the system32 folder. When I go to run it nothing happens. I shut of UAC and still nothing. What am I doing wrong? Kurt Zimmerman |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Create a Recovery Disc Hello Kurt, and welcome to Vista Forums. I'm not certain why it did not work for you. You might give OPTION ONE a try to see if it will work for you then. Shawn |

| Vista x64 | Re: Create a Recovery Disc Hi Shawn; Well it turns out to be a non issue. The machine I am servicing is a Dell. It turns out that Dell includes a system recovery disk with their machine. So there is no need for me to create the recovery disks. I will say that by having the pre-service pack 1 versions of recdisc.exe both 32 & 64 bit is going to be quite valuable for me in the future. Just with that I do appreciate that. Thanks again. | Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Create a Recovery Disc The Recovery Disk from Dell will usually just do a clean reinstall of Vista back to factory defaults, and will not boot to the System Recovery Options screen. The recovery disc in this tutorial will allow you to boot into the System Recovery Options screen to use to repair Vista with. You should be able to use it on any Vista computer of the same 32-bit or 64-bit version as the recovery disc. I'm happy to hear that you got that one sorted though. ![]() Shawn |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: Create a Recovery Disc Hi Kurt, Think you need to move/replace the original recdisc.exe file. Believe you also need the installation disc from which the recdisc program makes a copy of the winre recovery environment and burns it to cd. As Shawn says, the Neosmart downloads are a better solution. SIW2 |

| Vista Home premium 32bit | Re: Create a Recovery Disc Hi Brink, Why do we need to replace the original file "recdisc.exe". Is it the original does not work fine? What is the differences between those two files? My Windows Vista's "recdisc.exe" version is higher than the one you post. Regards, Khunna |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Create a Recovery Disc Hello Khunna, You got it right. Only the "recdisc.exe" file from the beta version of Vista works. Replacing it is the only way to get it to work in Vista. ![]() Shawn |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Create a Recovery Disc Khunna, It will work fine with the Vista SP1. It is used only to boot into the System Recovery Options screen to repair Vista with. It will not reinstall Vista or any other program like a OEM recovery disk. See the NOTE at the top of the tutorial for more about this. ![]() Shawn |
