| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Boot Advanced Options - Number of Processors Ed, I must admit that I'm not sure why they are not showing up here. The only thing I can think of is to check the settings in BIOS to see if there is one that looks like it may affect the number of cores. Sorry, ![]() Shawn |

| Vista Home Premiun 32bit | Re: Boot Advanced Options - Number of Processors I finally got to the boot details in the BIOS, and got this line: /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /NUMPROC=1 The cursor was on the 1 but it would let me change it or delete it. I guess I'll live with it until such times I do a re-install. Thanks Ed Thanks for the effort. I'll give the BIOS a try and let you know the result. Ed |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Boot Advanced Options - Number of Processors Ed, You might try resetting the CMOS jumper and BIOS to their default settings. It may then recognize the correct processor setting. Do you have the latest motherboard chipset and BIOS versions installed for your motherboard? However, I do not see Vista listed for it though. This may be part of the problem. Software & Driver downloads*Compaq Presario 2110CA Notebook PC Shawn |

| Vista Home Premiun 32bit | Re: Boot Advanced Options - Number of Processors My laptop is an HP Pavilion TX2110ca tablet notepad. The specs are: HP Pavilion tx2110ca Notebook PC*-* Product Specifications* It came with Vista Home Premium installed. Also the option for dual processors was there. It just disappeared during my tune up activities. I have logged most of the things I changed but none seen likely to be the cause. I have run CCleaner twice and included the registry on the last run. I reinstalled the backup from that run to no avail. I'll try the BIOS reset. Ed Ed, You might try resetting the CMOS jumper and BIOS to their default settings. | Vista Home Ultimate x32 | Re: Boot Advanced Options - Number of Processors Sorry, but this tip is completely bogus. It was featured on Lifehacker.com as well, and they and other sites posting about it have retracted their recommendation. The setting for "number of processors" in msconfig is a debug tool that should NOT be changed for normal use. It is only used to RESTRICT the number of processors used during boot-up, so a support person can debug if there is a problem with your CPU and Windows. It has NO effect (other than possibly bad) on the speed at which Windows boots up, as Windows automatically uses all available CPU's if you leave this "unchecked". Windows Vista Tip: Make Vista Use Multiple Cores to Speed Boot Time You are giving folks very bad advice here... |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Boot Advanced Options - Number of Processors Hello Jsmorley, Welcome to Vista Forums. ![]() I respect your opinion, but I must disagree. I and many others have noticed and confirmed a mark improvement in startup speeds with using only this tip to increase the number of processors to test the amount of time it takes to boot. It cannot be just a coincidence. I invite you to give it a try and test the timing yourself to see what results you get. Here's a quote from the link referenced at the Lifehacker link you provided above: Vista can boot faster on a multi-core processor - hoax | Windows Problem Solver Quote: Instructions This hint is only useful if your computer has more than one processor core. Modern processors that have two, four, or more cores can benefit from this. Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium SP1 64bit | Re: Boot Advanced Options - Number of Processors I have intel core 2 quad 9300, 4gb, 320gb x 2, gateway fx7026 pc. vista home premium sp1 64bit. this trick does nothing what so ever and even made it feel slower to boot. i have no apps in startup or anything starting up either. Ok, a test. I did the vbs file thing. It said 100 seconds or something, i totally forget. Opened msconfig and unchecked the processor thing. reboot and it says 100 seconds. go back into msconfig and check so it uses all 4 of my cpu and it took 161 seconds. so it went way slower with it on. Well after a few reboots pc won't start anymore. lucky the start up repair auto kicked in and fixed and now i am fine again. however i am not going to use this hoax hack thing. it doesn't work. | Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Boot Advanced Options - Number of Processors Hello buggs1a, I'm sorry to hear that it did not help you., but this is not a hoax hack. It is a legitimate option placed in Vista by Microsoft to do what is explained in the tutorial. Did you have any of the other options checked in the Boot Advanced Options window under step 6? Shawn |
