Re: Backup Status and Configuration - Enable or Disable

Hi Shawn!
I bought my new computer last February, and my computer is HP Pavillion DV6000. The operating system is Windows Vista Home Premiun. The problem I have is that everyday I am losing some gigabites of my hard drive spce. In the begining I lost about 4-5 GB per day and later it's like 1-2 GB per day. I thoughtit's because of this file backing up programme, but I didn't know how to disable it. So I only did System Recovery. I did system recovery about three times since I bought this new laptop. But now I no need to do it also, because I am afraid that will system recovery make a big problem to the computer if I do it so often.
Finally I found your web site and did the things as you have told how to disable the file back up, and I did it manually(didn't download your automatic software). I did it about 3days ago. Two days I didn't lose any GB. But last night again I have lost 1GB. So I think it didn't work well what I did to disable the file back up.
Please help me, Iam afraid that I will lose my whole HD space if this continue.
1. Why am I losing this HD free space everyday?
2. Does my computer save some files somewhere?
3. Where can I find those files my computer has saved them, and how to delete those files?
4. Will it make any problem to my computer if I did system recovery so often( I am feeling like after I did it last time about a week ago, my keyboard is not working properly)?

I trust you can help me and solve this poblem. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Tuukka

Re: Backup Status and Configuration - Enable or Disable

Hello Tuukka, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Since you have a HP computer, it may be the HP Backup and Recovery Manager that is eating up your space. You can uninstall it to stop it.

What is it? :
HP Backup and Recovery Manager

and

Uninstall it:
HP Notebook PCs*-* Uninstalling the Recovery Manager*

Hope this helps,

Re: Backup Status and Configuration - Enable or Disable

Hi Tuukka,

If the HP Backup and Recovery Manager is not where the links above say it's at then, I suppose you do not have it installed. You can check with this tutorial below to see how space is being used by System Restore to see if that may what is eating up that much space. If it is, you can then adjust how much max space it can use.

System Restore - disk space

Hope this helps,
