Re: USB Bootable Vista Installation Flash Thumb Drive

You probably did but just in case I have to ask did you enable booting from USB in your MB bios.

From the info at top of the guide:

"Your motherboard will need to support booting from a USB flash drive. Most newer boards do.
  • In the BIOS, you will need to enable Legacy USB storage detect.
  • In the BIOS, you will need to set the USB FDD (USB Flash Disk Drive) to be listed before you Vista hard drive in the Boot Priority order list and in the Hard Drive Boot Priority (if available). "

Re: USB Bootable Vista Installation Flash Thumb Drive

John,

Some USB flash drives have a extra partition on them that show up as CD/DVD drive in Computer. This is for it's management software. The extra partition will need to be removed before doing the tutorial. The USB software may have a option to do it. If not, then this will show you how to. This will wipe the USB drive clean.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: USB Bootable Vista Installation Flash Thumb Drive

Hi, i've tried to make a USB Bootable Vista Installation Flash Thumb Drive with no success in the tutorial you say format with fat32

you the end up with a Successfully updated NTFS filesystem bootcode

Well when i format with Fat 32 i end up with Successfully updated Fat 32 filesystem bootcode

Can someone please explain why this is the case, i've tried both formats and i end up with a filesystem bootcode in which ever format i decided to select, why is it different in the tutorial?

Regards Andy

Re: USB Bootable Vista Installation Flash Thumb Drive

Hello Andy,

Not sure why. Were you able to boot from the USB key afterwards with it as FAT32?

Re: USB Bootable Vista Installation Flash Thumb Drive

Hi, No i have not been able to boot from any format Fat32 or NTFS. I have followed the guide perfectly and when i restart if i go into bios (F11) and select to boot from usb and press enter, all i get is a blank screen with a flashing under_score in the left hand corner of the screen

Andy,

Double check all of the items in the Warning box at the top of the tutorial to see if any of it may apply to you. Next, try the steps in the link in the last item listed in the Warning box.

Re: USB Bootable Vista Installation Flash Thumb Drive

Shawn,

Is it possible to use an SDHC card of at least 4 GB in capacity instead? Just wondering, because a member has asked this question here: SD Bootable?
