Re: USB Bootable Vista Installation Flash Thumb Drive

Okay I finally was sucessful in making a boot usb drive with Vista x64 on it, now a quick question.

After I boot up and run a clean install when Vista wants to do the first reboot do I need to change the bios as the system reboots or just unplug the usb drive so that it will look for USB not see it and then proceed to boot using the HD?

Bratboy,

You can change the BIOS settings when installation is done and after you get the "Preparing desktop for the first time" screen.

Ah okay so set bios to boot from USB - start up run the install, let it reboot(still set to boot from usb device and leave the USB drive connected let it reboot) then after the install is completly done THEN reboot and change the boot order in the bios.

Did I get that right? I was afraid if I left the usb enabled it would just try to rerun the install again hehe

Yep you have it right. During installation it will still need to access the USB drive to finish installing Vista.

Hi Kiddieboy,

Sure you can format the USB key whenever you like and use it as you like.
