Re: Boot Screen - Change

Hi Jason, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Did you right click on the program shortcut and click on "Run as administrator"?

If so, then this program is not going to work for you.

Re: Boot Screen - Change

Since so many people have been having problems with the Vista Visual Master program, I have updated this tutorial to include the Stardock BootSkin program to use to change the Vista boot screen with also.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Boot Screen - Change

Jason n noddsta.. both your problems lie in what I am saying. and as brtinkn says.. it works if all your defaults are en-US (seems to even have ot be during install.. not changing it later.)

Great.. im gonn ahave to either reinstall.. or if someone can tell me which files are affected by this bootskin program so i can copy them over let me know.

Re: Boot Screen - Change

Hello Lakmills,

I'm not certain how that program could have affected your system in that manner, but you might try a System Restore from boot using a restore point dated before you installed it to see if it can fix it for you. If you are able to, I would recommend that you backup anything that you do not want to lose to be safe.

Did you have any issues with your computer before this?

Re: Boot Screen - Change

Hi Brink.. No, I don't use system restore (because I normally KNOW what I am doing with this machine ). Anyway.. I couldn't figure it out because when I looked at user32.dll.mui for example, the modification date was set to the original date for some reason. But in the end I thought... hmm.. strange.. since I had a backup of this file (in \windows\system32\en-US OR is it \windows\en-US\ ? .. don't remember now), I replaced it and functions returned. Was a hell of a scare though since I had nevr seen this problem before.

Don't know why I got issues in the first place but bootskin did have an error during install.. probably the reason.. I 'll try it again now with the backup file AFTER my exams.. But I probably can tell people to install bootskin for those who couldn't solve it elsewise. PS.. BACK UP the file I mention though before installing!!!

Re: Boot Screen - Change

Hello Madwizard, and welcome to Vista Forums.

The programs will autosize the image for you, but it would be better to use one that is close to your display's screen resolution to help prevent the image from being stretched and distorted.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
