| Newbie Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Dear Brink This is just to tell you that I had a stuck undeletable message in my Windows Mail reception box. I followed your advice, i.e. dowloading and installing the KB941090 Update and it worked perfectly well. Thank you so much. All the best. micminos |

| Dork ![]() Rep Power: 10 ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Windows Mail problems don't you love it when something that has never been a problem suddenly becomes a problem for apparently no reason? Here's the thing: i noticed that my back up software (Memeo autobackup on a Seagate drive) was not actually picking up my email message store location even though i specifically selected the appdata folder that contains all of the subdirectories that contain the files. I, being the genius in training that i am started poking around and decided to "unhide" that app data folder to see if that was the problem...which it was not, by the way. So, i chose to return the folder and everything in it back to what it was before...hidden. Basically just trying to reverse my steps. i thought i'll check some forums later to try and find out why it won't backup those folders. Then the next time i opened the Mail program, it wouldn't open at all and i got the message (can't completely remember the details) that basically led me to the instructions of deleting and restoring the Mail accounts/folders/etc. Used this tutorial, long story short (too late? ) Mail opened as it should with all of messages/contacts/rules in place BUT: it will now not remember my login credentials! very annoying. entering them in the pop-up works, and does for the entire session. but close the program and i have to do it all over again the next time. Now, i've read the other posts about the quirk of clicking the remember password option and clicking apply in the same instance, but no combination of clicking, etc. seems to be working. I don't even have the dots in the password box of the server tab when i go to properties under the account option, even though the remember my password box remains checked. FUN!! Sorry for the long post, but thats the whole story. Thought it might save a few back and forths. ![]() SO, the motto for the day seems to be: "if it ain't broke, keep fixin' it 'till it is." Can anyone (Brink, i'm lookin' right at you ) help? |

I would backup your messages using this tutorial. Windows Mail - Messages Next, delete your email account and create a new one with the same address, then restore the messages if needed. Hopefully your new account will work better. Shawn |

| Dork ![]() Rep Power: 10 ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Windows Mail problems sorry to say Sir Brink, this did not work. After the new account was created, it has the exact same symptoms as before: It does not remember login credentials and the password box on the server tab is empty. The first time i backed up my emails, when i couldn't even get the program to open, i copied the Windows Mail folder in its entirety, then deleted the old one to make the program create new directories. i then copied the contents of the copy into the new folder, and everything was where it should be, except for the lingering login problem. |

This will wipe Windows Mail clean back like it was the day you installed Vista. Afterwards, create a new account and restore the messages. Windows Mail problems Shawn |

I'll give the whole walk-through a shot when i get home tonight...after dinner...after my 2 1/2 year old goes to bed...if my wife doesn't have any grad-school homework to do...if i don't fall asleep on the couch....you get the idea! Thanks Brink. |

| Dork ![]() Rep Power: 10 ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Windows Mail problems ok, i have repeated those steps to the letter. Upon opening Windows Mail for the first time after i completed the process, it still had my Charter account pop-up window asking for credentials! I then once again deleted that account entirely, and after creating it from scratch, selected remember password, it immediately asks for my credentials again. GRR. |

I would contact Charter to check your account settings to see if they are correct or if Charter made any changes that would affect them. Check to make sure that the Log on using Secure Password Authentification (SPA) box is not checked. Skip the Identities part since Windows Mail does not have this feature. Everything else is the same though. Outlook Express 6.X Settings - Charter Communications Hope this helps, Shawn |
