Re: Windows Mail problems

Your welcome Jean,

Welcome to the forum.

I would use the free Avast antivirus program with Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. I have not had any problems with these progams yet, and have not had one bit of malware get on my system yet. Having no security at all will put your computer at risk of becoming some hackers slave; doing all sorts of nasties to it.

With that said, I know what you mean.

Re: Windows Mail problems

Hi Spinolainc,

Welcome to the forum.

For separate inboxes, you will want to use Windows Live Mail Beta (WLM) instead. It supports Pop3, IMAP, HTTP website (EX: Hotmail) email, and is a lot more stable. Plus, WLM will minimize to a tray bar icon and has a separate Inbox for each account. WLM will automatically import Windows Mail messages, accounts, and settings into it. Contacts will have to be manually imported from within WLM. (Tools, Contacts, File, Import, Address book for current Windows User.) To see the Menu bar, press ALT+M and check "Show all menus".
For US and UK (32 bit Vista):

For US and UK (64 bit Vista):
Windows Live Beta 2 Suite Downloads
For non-US and non-UK locations (direct download):

Re: Windows Mail problems

Thanks Brink, I've been working on this email problem for the past 6 days....day & night & something finally worked for me. I just got my new HP Notebook which came with Norton. Before I did anything I was talked into removing it & installing McAfee. BIG MISTAKE. I didn't realize how slow it made the computer. I installed the free AVG without the email security activated, followed your instructions & my computer is flying. (Email included) You would think the techs at Comcast would have known about the email problem & not let anyone install McAfee.
Thanks Again

Re: Windows Mail problems

Its a common problem - things like Norton and Mcafee may sound fantastic and cover so much in the way of security, antivirus etc etc. but they`re severe bloatware, take up many resources and generally slow the entire system. When I visit clients for the first time, if they`re running mcafee or norton, I recommend they`re removed immediately and replaced with something similar to AVG.

Re: Windows Mail problems

Your welcome RichC,

Welcome to the forum.

I am glad this helped you resolve your problem. McAfee and Norton use to be one of the top security programs around. They worked great on XP, but somehow they dropped the ball big time with Vista. Hopefully, they will pull it together and update their software so it will be totally compatible with Vista and all of it's elements. It would be a shame for these two great companys to not get it straight.

Re: Windows Mail problems

Shawn; Brink: I reconstructed my Vista mail & deleted the files in the Windows mail directory the way you described. It worked for a while but I'm back to not being able to send again. I didn't delete the files but moved them to a temp directory on my desktop. The mail program indicated that it rebuilt itself but could it be possible that not deleting the file caused it to corrupt again? At least getting rid of McAfee has helped considerably. My notebook is running at least 60 % faster although I would like my email someday.
Thanks

Re: Windows Mail problems

RichC,

Not deleting the temp directory on your desktop will not affect Windows Mail since it is outside of the program's data folders.

Double check in Programs and Features to make sure that you uninstalled all of McAfee's appltications. There is usually more than one listed.

What program are you using now? Do you have any other security program that has a email scanning option? (EX: Anti-Spam/Spy)
