yeah thanks Sid, but that was me in that post you linked to!
Sorry for that, you should have posted in the same thread
If you're talking about the link, the progs are made to create and send magic packets through the network, you can wake up individual machines by using the mac address or you can wake all the machines.

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Well, apart sending magic packets, i do not see any issue to your demand.
The options you're talking about are just permissions to give to "allow" the computer to wake up or not.

Thumbs up Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

I found this article very helpful as it taught me a lot about Vista.
But it missed the cause of my problem (easy to happen with so many things to consider and different hardware manufacturers)

My I suggest an additional step 1 point:
Check mother board switches!
My Asus PK5PL-CM has a jumper that sets different sleep voltages for USB.
One for S1 sleep and another for S3 sleep dah - should have read the mboard manual a bit more carefully. When I changed the jumper to S3 my Vista Sleep/Restart problem was solved.

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Hello all:

I really thought that following this list of suggestions would do the job for me and get sleep mode recovery working again. With respect to night kid's 'keeping the internet connection alive' if the wireless router is setup to sign on to his ISP then the connection shpould be alive after Vista completes the restart or boot up operation.

Back to the drawing boards for me, I have to get this sleep mode recovery thing fixed!! Thanks for all of the excellent suggestions in this tutorial.

George

Exclamation Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

If anyone is using Logitechs Setpoint v4.oa2 for Vista do what I did, remove it ! I still have basic use of the keyboard (except for some special buttons)and mouse using vista's usb drivers/unchecking allow keyboard&mouse to wake computer. Now sleep mode works like it should...the trade-off is worth it.At least now I can focus on using my pc and not mess around with troubleshooting! Hope this helps someone else... Norbert

I have Vista Home Premium 32bit. In Step 5 above I cannot do, I do not have the power managment option at stage 6 of this step therefore I cannot change any of the device wake up settings. Any suggestion on how I can get my toshiba laptop version of Vista into the retail version. Toshiba have changed a lot of Vista and are unhelpful when I seek there assistance so jsut struggle on the best I can. Thanks Hendo.

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Hello Hendo, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Some devices do not have a Power Management tab. What devices are you trying to disable from wakeup?

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

I am trying to stop the mouse from waking the computer. I followed the instuctions and found that if I disconnect the mouse cable from the usb port my notebook will into sleep mode. Now I need to work out how to stop it from preventing the notebook from going into sleep mode. I have a Toshiba Satallite which has preinstalled vista so it makes it hard for me to get vista to run properly. Thanks
