Re: Powercfg & sleep problems

NiGht kiD,

No, but you can just set the network device to wake up the computer. (EX: Wake on LAN)

Re: Powercfg & sleep problems

niGht kiD,

Look under the Power Management tab for the Allow this device to wakeup the computer option.

Lightbulb Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Hello!
My Windows Vista Ultimate x64 goes to the Hibernation 10 minutes. A monitor turns off from the beginning of the Hibernation (it showed the Hibernation progress in Windows XP). The HDD activity led lights for 20 seconds from the beginning, then blinks rarely and then lights for 20 seconds again in the end.
How to normalize the Hibernation?
The RAM is 2 gb. CPU is Intel E6750. HDD is Western Digital Green Power 500gb SATA. Motherboard Asus P5K.
Runing POWERCFG -H OFF and POWERCFG -H ON did not help.
I tried with 'Suspend Mode' - 'Auto'.
'Repost Video on S3 Resume' - 'Enabled' and 'Disabled'
'ACPI Version' - 'Enabled' and 'Disbaled'
'ACPI APIC Support' - 'Enabled' in the 'Power menu' in BIOS setup utility v02.58 American Megatrends.
Best regards,
Dima

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Hi Dima,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

Are you saying it takes 10 minutes to hibernate once starting to?

How long it takes Vista to save everything to the hard drive before hibernating depends on how many items are opened and how much it needs to save. Vista does not have a progress bar though.

You can adjust how long you want to wait for the computer to enter hibernation in the Power Options. (STEP TWO)

Please let me know anything I left out,
Shawn

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

I'll quote my post in this thread: Vista Wont Sleep, Want To Wake Up With MCE Remote

I have found one more thing involved in the Vista waking up conundrum. It's a motherboard jumper.

I was able to stop Vista waking up with the usual "power management" tab unchecking and wake-on-lan disabling. Several months later, I was leafing through my motherboard manual (as you do...) and read about a jumper allowing "USB Device Wake-Up". Turns out it was off by default. I set the jumper to on and hey presto, Vista stays asleep but I can still use the keyboard to wake it up! I do have to check "Allow this device to wake the computer..." but it now works as it should and doesn't wake up the machine unless I press the spacebar.

My motherboard (Asus P5B-E) has one jumper for each set of USB ports, plus one for PS/2. I went over to a friend and her Asus has only one jumper for everything. But it works for her too. And the jumper was the only way to fix her Vista insomnia!

Question Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

hi Brink

Great resource you have here. My suggestion is in regards to step seven: putting the computer to sleep from the welcome screen when no users are logged in should eliminate having to deal with msconfig, no?

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Hi crashnet,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

That's a good idea. It has been added to Step Seven in the tutorial.

Thank you,
Shawn
