| Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit | Greetings everyone! I'm glad I found this forum and I thank Brink for taking the time to create this excellent tutorial, as well as those of you who have contributed to this great effort. My problem is this: The USB mouse, keyboard, and the system itself hangs when I attempt to resume from sleep mode. My only option is to unplug the computer from the wall outlet to get it to boot up again. This is a new custom built rig and I can't figure out why this is happening. Are you guys able to help me resolve this problem? Your tutorial seems to address other sleep mode issues and not mines in particular. Thank you very much for your time and assistance! | Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems Hello Starduski and Saidas, Double check to make sure that you have hibernation disabled. Some boards just do not support this well that can cause issues with sleep mode. Here are some other common items to check that may help:

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems I wish I could help. There is one thing I can say for sure STOP unplugging and replugging the computer from the wall outlet. I did that for about two weeks and I think that's what caused the failure of the C drive. I had to have HP tech bring and install a new drive (luckily, I had taken out an extended warranty with inhouse service). Then it took me over 10 hours to reinstall the OS, along with all the programs. I had a back up but that was no good because it would have just reinstalled whatever nasty was causing the problem. This machine still experiences sleep mode surprises. Sometime the mouse will wake it, then again not, or the remote, never the keyboard and lastly a light tap of the power button might do it. I'm beginning to think there is a sleep/hibernate gremlin in all comps with sleep mode feature that refuses to be caught but runs around creating havoc when and where you don't expect it. <g> I've decided that it has gotten the better of me and I gave up trying to "fix" it and believe me, I tried everything. I no longer allow it to sleep at night (trying to wake it from sleep in the morning is not what I want to have to face) so I shut down the comp when I'm done with it at night. I hope you find out what is causing the problems. I wish you luck and lots of patience. |

Shawn My hibernation must already be disabled per your link instructions because it doesn't show up in the Advanced Power Options. One question before I began tinkering with the BIOS: Will this in anyway affect my Overclocked speed settings? I paid my computer vender to increase my clock speed from the original factory setting of 2.6mhz to my current speed of 3.8mhz. I can't [yet] overclock my processor so I don't wanna screw things up...sorry. |
