Double check to make sure that you have hibernation disabled. Some boards just do not support this well that can cause issues with sleep mode.

Here are some other common items to check that may help:
  • Reset BIOS to factory settings
  • Update BIOS to lasted version
  • Unplug all external devices to test sleep to see if one may be a cause
  • Update all device drivers
Hope this helps for now,

Hello there Brink...thank you so much for replying sir!

My hibernation must already be disabled per your link instructions because it doesn't show up in the Advanced Power Options.

One question before I began tinkering with the BIOS: Will this in anyway affect my Overclocked speed settings? I paid my computer vender to increase my clock speed from the original factory setting of 2.6mhz to my current speed of 3.8mhz. I can't [yet] overclock my processor so I don't wanna screw things up...sorry.
Yes, resetting the BIOS settings will undo the overclocking.

Doing everything else will not though.

Brinks,

Thanks for the warning. I'm not ready to experiment with the clock speed at this time so I guess I'll have to leave the sleep mode alone untill perhaps Microsoft finds a solution to my delema. I've been meaning to learn how to overclock, but I just never got around to actually doing it.

Maybe hibernation mode is an option that I should consider. I can still restore this feature, given that it is no longer available on my system, right? Anyway, thanks man...I really appreciated your help.

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Starduski,

Sure you can enable and give hibernation a try to see how it may work you if you like. If it doesn't, you can just disable it again.

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

I have a problem. When I try to put my computer to sleep, the computer power button will turn orange and when the monitor goes to sleep the computer will turn back on. I done the Power Management stuff in the Control Panel but nothing happens. I don't like shutting my computer all the way down because it takes too long to reboot. And the computer manual says that it is recommended to leave it to sleep and not Shut Down.

Please help me.

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

Hey!

I`m posting here because of a Sleep issue I`m having with my computer.

The problem is that when I tell the computer to enter Sleep Mode, it does not enter sleep mode. The monitor powers off, however the computer remains in exactly the same state.

The issue cannot be resolved with step 2 of the tutorial because I do not wish for my computer to automatically sleep after a certain amount of time; I only want it to enter sleep mode when I press the sleep button. This means that changing the settings so that the hard drive is set to turn off a minute earlier than the computer enters sleep mode essentially changes nothing because I need those settings set at `never`.

Hello Paul, and welcome to Vista Forums.

That would be fine to have STEP TWO set that way.

What is you BIOS settings set as in STEP THREE?

Have you checked all the other steps to see if one of them may be preventing your computer from going to sleep?

Hello, do you have SP2 installed? Also, do you have Avira Antivir installed? If you do, disabling Avira Antivir before you put your computer to sleep might solve the issue. Il did for me anyway. Don't forget to re-enable it after wake-up though.

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

This is exactly the same situation for me that has been a problem now for over a year with no resolution. I'm upgrading to Windows 7 soon and hope that will resolve this problem.

Re: Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

this tutorial solved my Dell laptop's sleep problem, but another problem recently occured, and I want to see if anyone have the same experience.

I just bought a HP multifunction USB printer M1319f, and the problem is when I press the power button to let the laptop sleep, the screen will go off...but the computer will never go into sleep...unless I unplug the USB cable. The hard drive stays busy after I press the sleep button, but as soon as I unplug the USB cable, the laptop goes into sleep mode.

help~
