| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Administrator Account Yeah, it's listed in Computer Management, but attempting to run lusrmgr.msc will simply open MMC with a message that you can't open the snap-in since you're running Home Premium or Home Basic. ![]() Makes you wonder why MS has it listed in Computer Management for those editions then. ![]() Shawn |

| Vista Home Basic | Re: Administrator Account I can't do that. Whenever I try to do anything that requires admin permission it won't let me. If I put in the wrong password, it says that it's the incorrect password. But if I type in the right one, nothing happens. the pop up window that asks for admin password just goes away and thats it. But when I tried to do it with the cmd, instead of nothing happening it says "Windows cannot find 'C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again" after I type in the right password. |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | My neighbour got a laptop with VHP32 last September - no problems with it till yesterday - when she switched on, it asked her for her password, which she has never used or even known about. I tried logging in to Safe Mode to access the Administrator Account and it doesn't appear on the login screen. So I tried logging in to the last successful startup and it still asked for a password. So I tried logging in to the Repair option and got a Window asking for the Administrator password, which, as far as I know, is supposed to be blank by default. When I clicked the OK button, I got the message "Your Account has been disabled. Please contact your System Administrator". Is Microsoft playing a great joke on us? My neighbour just wants to swap pictures with her family, play Patience and type occasional letters to the over-50's club - what need has she for all this security? It looks as if she's going to have to take it to a repair shop and pay £50 an hour or more to fix a problem not of her making........ Unless anybody out there can help? ??????????? David |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Administrator Account Hi David, You can try to reset the password using Method Three in this tutorial to gain access again. In your case, you will probably have to create the boot DVD on another computer to use on the laptop. Reset User Account Password Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Administrator Account David, Sorry but no, the OEM Recovery DVD will only allow for a clean install of Vista. Plus, it would only work for your laptop since it is basically only a clone of your hard drive with Vista and your hardware settings on it. If resetting the password does not help, then you can create a Recovery Disc that will allow you to do repairs from here: Create a Recovery Disc You can then use it to do a System Restore at boot using a restore point dated before the problem. Method Two in this tutorial will show you how to if needed. System Restore - How to Shawn |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | That fixed it! I could restore the system to before the printer installation - which didn't go smoothly - and then installed that again and it went like clockwork. ![]() Many thanks from me and especially from my neighbour. ![]() David |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Administrator Account Shawn - I got to 'enter' on step 1, and system response was: "The option / is unknown". How do I get out of this? I'll just put up with the nuissance of having to ok admin rights rather than mess up my pc. I am not very knowledgeable re this stuff, but can follow directions...just don't wade in over my head! ![]() Thanks. (and where in TX are you? I'm here too!)
